Hello,
I am needing a photo from Faulkton Cemetery. My grandmothers brother was buried there when he was a baby. He was born sometime between 1887 and 1904. His name was Frank Leroy Smith. According to the South Dakota State Archives his grave should be located in Lot 7.
I live in Australia and find it difficult to visit the USA at this time.
Thank you for your help,
Janet

I live on the western side of the state -- and right now there is quite a lot of snow in the Cemetery. Hopefully someone close will volunteer to take the picture, MaryB

PS I have visited Australia, visiting sheep ranches. And since I started doing genealogy I have found a cousin who lives in Australia, cousin 5 generations back the name is CLARKSON.

HI,
Thank you for your quick reply. When I sent out the query
I was wondering if there was snow there. I have seen the
reports of the weather you have been receiving. Here in
Australia our summer has ended. We are getting
temperatures of between 60F and 70F.

It is wonderful to meet someone who has been here. My
girlfriend (NSW) and I (Australian Capital Territory=A.C.T.)
often visit the smaller NSW towns around the A.C.T. I am
happy to take any photographs for you (providing the distances
are not to great :-) )

I live in Minneapolis,MN, but am originally from Faulk Co. I will take a photo when I go, but not until Independence Day. You might get a speedier response by posting a memorial for him on findagrave.com and requesting a photo there. Emails go out to local volunteers. I did check, there are a handful of Smiths posted there in Faulkton Cem., but not yours.

I am investigating another Faulk Co. graveyard by the old Sod Church. There is a child buried there whose father and mother were John Conrad and Fannie Wakefield Smith. Are these by chance part of your family? John and Fannie are in Faulkton Cem.

Hello Kent,
Thank you so much for your help.
Unfortunately the Wakefield Smith child is not my relative.
The name of my relative is Franklin L. Smith and he died 08-03-1890.

The South Dakota State Archives have him recorded being buried at Faulkton Cemetery, Faulk County, South Dakota. I found this information at the South Dakota State Historical Society. According to their records he is buried in Lot 7.

I live in Australia really appreciate any help that you are able to provide.

Let me know if there is anything that I might be able to help you with.

Best Regards,
Janet

Janet, I created a memorial on findagrave.com for your Smith relative. This is the site from which I will print a list of photo requests when I visit Faulkton in July. In the meantime, any volunteer might answer the request and post the photo. However, given the amount of snow across the Northern Plains states it might be a while. We have 52" of snow in Minneapolis so far- 40" is the average for the whole winter!!
Search for that memorial on findagrave.com with memorial # 64312627, If you want to maintain it just join that site for free and hit the "edit" tab on the Smith memorial and request that. I have had great luck getting grave photos on this site.
