Could anyone tell me who owned this Cheese Factory in 1900
I know there was an Elmbrook cheese factory is it the same? Elm Wood is listed as owning one the first telephones in P.E.C. I am reserching these 88 phones purched between 1901 and 1903. Any Help would be appreciated. Also I have drawn a blank on an William Sim 1901. He is not the one listed in the 1901 P.E.C. Census.

Hi
An exert from "The History of Cheesemaking in Prince Edward County" follows: The first cheese factory on Big Island was built in 1873 by W.R. Rankin........and was called the Big Island cheese factory. I have the publication and would be happy to provide further information. I also see on Ancestry.com that you have Lena Marion Jones in your tree. Are you researching the May family? I am the son of Flossie May .d/o of George. Ivan

Hi again

I should have read the next line in the book. it says "In the early '70s, John Sprague built The Elmwood Cheese Co. factory and operated it for several years. It continued to operate until 1900, and the cheesemakers were Bessie Creeper and W.L. Lloyd........On December 19, 1900, due to the increased volume of milk.....They purchased the factory formerly owned by W.R.Rankin." Contact me at wellingtonon@yahoo.ca and I will scan article.
Ivan
