Edward Neddy Phair

Several questions/observations about Edward Neddy Phair:

1. I have seen the name "Neddy" in quotes, which suggest that this was a nickname and not a given name. For those born during time, most did not have middle names at that time. So it appears it is a nickname - thoughts?
2. I have also seen his name posted as Edward Phair Farr or some variation thereof. It appears again that some folks are recognizing that his name got spelled different ways as opposed to it being a real middle name. It appears to me his "correct" name was Edward Phair.
3. There are some ancestry trees that suggest that his father was Joseph F. Phair and his mother was Margaret Ann Thatcher. This is confusing since Joseph Phair was according to these records born in Connecticut and we know Edward Neddy Phair was born in Ireland? My conclusion is Joseph is probably not his father - but have not seen other documentation as to his parentage?
4. Interesting that he Edward Neddy Phair married well with Rachel Beard and her "rich" father. Interesting that he moved away after having acquired 400 aceres from John Beard. I wonder why he moved to NC and left her family behind. One would speculate that he may not have gotten along with her family or he set up to make his own fortune.
Any thoughts.

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas or discussion.

In the UK, Neddy or Ned are common diminutives for Edward, as are Ted & Teddy. They wouldn't be used as christening names, but when you have several members of the family with the same names then often the son/grandson is named after his father/grandfather but is known by another name, sometimes a middlename, sometimes a diminutive of their first name, sometimes a nickname. They may also be known under one name as a child, then another as an adult.

I've gave a good deal of thought on this. He may have had problems with in law's but that I don't see as that big just as we do today. He was in a war zone. Virginia was in it deep and he moved to Mecklenburg where few battles were held at that time. Kings Mountain and later Cowpens and Gilford Court House come to mind. The book Pharrs and Farrs tens to believe the name was Phair or something close. It also speculates that Edward never lived in Pennsylvania like his brothers. I agree with both.
