Grgrgrfa Green Joseph Riddle born 1824 or 1829 Ala.(prob. Talladega) married Missouri A.B.McClure 1850 Port Gibson Miss. Claiborne Co.; feel I have successfully traced her father to be William McClure 1831 Choctaw Indian census; Wm. died 1846; Green and Missouri in 1850 in her home-Darius McClure,24, head of house; there's Joyce, Green,21, Missouri, 19, Mary A., James W. There's a James and Wm. McClure Choctaw Indian census(Wm.-"white man w/ Indian wife) and a Joseph Riddle(do not know who Green Joseph Riddle's father/mother were-his fa. he states in 1870 is foreign born and mother born So. Car. Family splits 1860 Civil War. Girls and Mammy the Black Slave are sent to safety by Green Joseph to girls Catholic boarding school(must have been St. Vincent's)Shreveport La. Mammy stays w/ Lula in Waco; she's buried same Lula(Riddle)Maskew & family Bosqueville Cemetary Waco-lived to be about 105 years old.Mary(Minnie) Riddle McCown also Tx.; the girls were 3@5 when Green Joseph sent them to safety. There's a Wm.Riddle also in 1850 Claiborne Co. census. In 1860 family in Warrenton, 10 mi.so. of Vicksburg when split occured. Green Joseph 1870 alone w/ little boys Green & George and then he makes census 1870 back in Ala.(Randolph Co.) and alone. Would like to know who his parents were and what happened to grgrgrmo Missouri and their sons Green and George.??? Was Joseph Riddle of Wilkinson Co. his father who died before 1850 census??? Did they divorce?? Have searched and searched. There's a Dr. James J. Riddle in age bracket to where he could've been Green Joseph's brother(buried Bosqueville Cem. also) born Talladega Ala. married Marquerete Hulbert of Crawford Miss.; he studied medicine and was a circuit rider Baptist Preacher for Rock Creek, Mt. Zion and Antioch -pastor of Marlin Baptist Church when he died- but have no info on his parents. There's a Wm. Riddle married to a Mrs. Missouri A. Riddle Indian Terr. Ok. in L.D.S. microfish-date's "guesstimated" way it looks-I don't know if that's her or maybe a relative??? There are other Riddle's with same 1st names-George-Joseph-listed as Choctaw/Chickasaw Mtd. Rifles-Green Joseph's age gains 10 years in Warrenton census so maybe he didn't want to participate? Suits me fine. Frances

Oh you bet this helps; I have Sarah's bros and sisters from Geri Goza Diehl and a few others but not Wm.'s fa. I have a good hunch they were originally from SC like most of Daddy's ancestors; that or NC; Goza's from SC. Wm. McClure died prior to 1850 in Claiborne Co. Now at least I know who his father is thanks to you! I sure do appreciate your response. Possibly the Kentucky census would give some info and thanks to you I now know where else to look-Ky.-this is great. Anything that gets a person a step closer helps make the puzzle fit. I will let you know if I find anything. Hurray, another cousin found over the Internet! frances fmcw@ktc.com

This is the information I have:
Missouri Ann Blackwell McClure was born to William McClure and Sarah Goza McClure about 1831 in Claiborne Co., MS. She married Green J. Riddle 15 Jan 1850 in Claiborne Co. Missouri's sibling are: Charles Martin McClure(no spouse found); Darius D. McClure (no spouse found); Joice Amanda McClure married Robert Foster; Mary Angeline McClure married Robert S. Patton; and James W. B. McClure married Charity P. Barlow. Sarah Goza McClure's parents are Martin and Amy Goza. William McClure, Missouri's father, siblings are James (Jr.) McClure, my gggrandfather; Jane McClure; and Susan Jane McClure. William's father is James (Sr.) McClure. I don't know who his first wife was (Ancestry.com has Elizabeth McMillion, but I don't think that's correct.) I do know that the family was in Caldwell Co., KY in 1809 when James Jr. was born and Jane McClure married Josiah Greer in Caldwell Co. in 1810; Jane was born in 1791 in South Carolina. By the 1820 census the family had moved to Claiborne Co., MS. By the 1830 census both James' were across the Mississippi River in LA. I don't know if William and Sarah were with them. By 1840 both James' were back in Claiborne Co., MS.

I'm sorry, I have no information on the Riddle family. I hope this helps. If you find anything, let me know.

James McClure, Jr. is my son's 3Great Grandfather. James married first, Martha Higgins and second, Louisa Phillips, according to my information, and Martha was the mother of nine children, including Ann Matilda McClure who married first Green Sorrels and second James Monroe Hudson. James Monroe Hudson and Ann Matilda McClure Sorrels Hudson had at least five children, including William Monroe Hudson, who married Emma George CLARK. They had thirteen children, including Newell Henry Semrall Hudson, who married Beulah STEPHENS of Newton Co, MS. They had one child, Michael Henry Hudson, b. 17 Dec 1941, Vicksburg, Warren Co, MS, d. 28 Feb 1992, Park Ridge, Cook Co, IL. Michael Henry Hudson m. Linda Gwyn WILSON (me) 29 Mar 1969 in Ft. Pierce, St. Lucie Co, FL. We have one son, Buell Henry Hudson.

Am seeking confirmation that Martha Higgins was indeed the mother of the nine children of James McClure, Jr. and also do you know the parents of Martha Higgins? Also, regarding Tabatha Lilly, the second wife of James McClure Sr., was she the mother of James McClure Jr or any of the children?

In the 1850 census, there is a Samuel McClure living with the Twiner family, next door to James and Martha McClure. Do you know where this Samuel fits in the family.

As an aside, Newell Henry Hudson's neice, Marguerite Jordan, daughter of Robert B. Jordan and Eunice Etta Hudson married L.S. GREER and they live or lived in Pattison, MS.

I am interested in corresponding with McClure researchers. .

I have copies of marriage cert.'s of James McClure md. to Martha Higgins and Louisa Philips and that's all I have on them; the only thing I could suggest is to check the census and see what age groups the children fall into and see what corresponds with the marriage dates.??You sent me the info that Mrs. Susan Twiner is the sister of Wm. McClure and I kept that info and what do you know...a descendant of her's contacted me a few weeks ago. contact her : frazure@livingston.com
She has info on James McClure Sr. going back to 1770. There is a group of McClure's who fought under Francis Marion the Swamp Fox and my McCown's all fought under him:Alexander McCown and all his 5 sons; if we could trace our McClure's to this group we probably could connect our McClure's to the others. frances

P.S. Have you been in touch with Janice at ML61JL65@aol.com; I got my info from her and Karen KClark969@aol.com
I don't have any info that I know of on which woman was the mother of James Jr.'s children but they may have. My stuff is all disheveled again. Do you have any info on James Sr. other than what you sent me that he was b. 1810 Ky. (where in Ky.?) and that he was in La. in 1830 and then back in Ms. with William. Niki sent me info that my Missouri Riddle was in the 1910 Ky. census with sons Green and Charles; she was going by Ann Blackwell Riddle and had md. Wm. Riddle after Green Joseph's death but I still can't fit him or which Wm. Riddle this was. frances

Thank you for your prompt reply. I don't have marriage dates for James McClure Sr to first Martha Higgins and second Louisa Phillips, and would appreciate the information you have on that as well as the marriage place.

I tried the email address you gave me, frazure@livingston.com and mail was returned.
