There are many things that I don't know about ancestry.com and how it works. I clicked on your name and this was the only message that showed up. (So, I am assuming that this is the only message you have posted so far.) I'm not sure why you put your message here since it is mostly about Morgan Co. Illinois. You may have already done this but may I make a suggestion? If you post your message on the Illinois Unknown message board, you will have an audience of folks who have a wide variety of interests. Maybe some of them can help you. Look on that site (type in Stanfield as a search on the site and my name will pop up) and find a message I posted in Oct or Nov 2003 about how to get to databases in the Illinois State Archives. I have not looked for info. about the Soldiers and Sailors Home but I believe that they have some info. in the Archives about that institution. When they closed the ISSCHome school probably 20 years ago, they brought their library books to the Illinois School for the Deaf since we were a state agency. So, I think that the Soldiers and Sailors Home was probably a state agency, too. Look for the "descriptive inventory" on the Archives site. That is a list of what the Archives has in its holdings. (For example, if you check the Illinois School for the Deaf, you will find admittance records, state reports on the school, etc. You might be able to find similar info.) Another tactic would be to check records on the county level. We were able to check the county reports on various children who were being supported by their home counties while attending the Illinois School for the Deaf. The Soldiers and Sailors Home records will probably be closed to you since they are so "recent". However, if the county helped support the children at the Home, you might find reports on them. We found things like how much was spent on clothing, laundry, books, etc. Sorry this was so long. Maybe it will help you a bit. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK

Morgan Area covers 7 IL counties, namely:
Morgan, Scott, Cass, Macoupin, Sangamon, Menard and Greene. As there were several State Institutions/Schools, etc. in Morgan County that persons were admitted to that resided all over the State of IL, it is common to see this type of query posted on this site-

I looked on the Secretary of State Archives site. On the site, you can look at the descriptive inventory. (Hint: If you ever go to an archives, always ask right away to see the descriptive inventory. It makes them think you know what you are doing since you know what to call the thing. Besides that, the descriptive inventory will be informative and will save you a lot of time.) On the site when you get the descriptive inventory info. to come up, don't waste your time trying to look for the info. On the Table of Contents screen, scroll down to State Institutions, and there you will find the Soldier's and Sailor's Children's School. Click on that and you can see what all they have. There are TWO things that might be of interest in respect to the children you mentioned. One of them said it was "closed". However, the other student files didn't say anything about being closed. That info. might be available to you. It might have some info. on Mr. Green, his parents, etc. If you live in Illinois, it might be worth calling ahead to be sure that you could look at the material at the Archives in Springfield. They won't be able to go get the files on Saturday. However, if you call ahead, they can arrange to have the material brought up to the reading room for you to see on Saturday if you can't get there during the week. (At least that was the policy a few years ago.) Hope this is helpful. I couldn't tell from your query just what you wanted to know about Mr. Green and/or your siblings. Feel free to contact me offline. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK, rchrdcck@aol.com

I don't know the answer to your question but wondering if you have any information on the following:

Looking for Vierdena Mae Jones, daughter of of Ida Edith Paukner who may be the sister of your Mother Violet Paukner.

Please let me know if this is correct. Thank you very much.
Susan
