When a major database, such as a census, appears as "updated", would like ancestry.com to alert customers as to what the update contains. Were new records added or was it merely little fixes within the existing database? I've been campaigning for this for a long time and the US content manager, Chris, has posted some explanations to the blog recently for recently updated US databases.

Can we get a report on this recent update from the UK content manager?

I would second this as I get quite fed up with seeing a record that I have interest stated as *updated* only to find that the update, if there even has been one, is not obvious.

The WW1 service Records are incomplete from surnames beginning with O and I am awaiting the update that will add these surnames. The extra onformation says that it will be done early 2009 and every time I see the *updated* marker I have to check to see if it actually has been updated.

At the very least they should date when the record was updated and it would make sense to put a small comment on what the update was.

I can only assume that it looks better to have lots of *updated* records even if the updates were done a long time ago or it is merely a shift in the text size of Title

I fully agree! I work in IT and it is obligatory to include a summary of changes with every software or database change.

I would be quite happy with just a few words such as 'missing links corrected' or 'updated to include surnames O to S' or whatever - it doesn't need to be vast, just an indication
