Hi Kyle,
I'm trying to find John Simmons, b. 1813, in grainger co. His siblings may be Eleanor, Eliza, James, and Lucinda. John m. Elizabeth Brown also from TN. They then moved to Missouri, then to California. Does any of this sound familiar? I believe John's father was James from Orange co, NC.

I am a desendant of John Simmons b. early 1800's, don't have the papers in front of me at the moment. John Simmons married Elizabeth Smith and migrated from Grainger Co, Tennessee to Missouri and stayed in Missouri. Half of Polk County and Cedar County Missouri are desended from him. Not really, but it's a huge family, they had 10 kids.

I have just started looking at this line, I received some research from another family member. I would think we are probably in the same family line since we are talking about Grainger County Tennessee with a migration to Missouri. The father of John Simmons was Jehu Simmons. Don't ask me how they pronounced that!

I don't have this line entered into my computer yet, I just received it. When I get it entered I would be glad to share. The main line is there, but alot of work needs to be done on the families that are desended from him.

The Simmons' are hard to trace because they named everyone John, James or William!

Hi, hoping you still share the same email address here...Your Simmons..of Grainger Co.,TN...I have Austin, Covington, Hankins, Blankenship, Cox, Haynes, James, Courtney, Dyer and others who were in early VA to Greene, Grainger, Jefferson Co., TN (also Dalton) who left TN for MO about 1850 period. Do you have any connections to the lines here? Curious as the Jesse James clan (family of Zerelda cole and Robert James of VA) settled in Clay (Kearney) Co., MO and were in KY prior to this time period.

Let me know..I have a John W. Simmons of GA b. 1809 who married into my Middlebrooks clan (Bethiah Middlebrooks b. 1881 GA da/of Robert M. b. 1766 NC)...Jean in TX

Hi Jean,
I still have not found the time to throughly search my Simmons family. I received some information from another relative over a year ago but I've been so preoccupied with my business that I haven't looked at it closely.

I don't see any of the specific surnames in my records that you mentioned, however that doesn't mean much because it's in such disarray and incomplete that some of them might be there. I hope to find the time some of these days to get my research in order and get my book done. But at this point, I think it's going to be awhile.

We are likely talking about the same family though. I mainly have just the basic direct line back though so there is LOTS of work that needs to be done on the branches of the tree. I basically have the direct line back, their kids and who they married.

I do have John Simmons can't see his date of birth because it's been cut off what was given me, but likely between 1760 and 1770 that is the wife's date of birth, in Orange County, North Carolina and migrated to Grainger County Tennessee. However the wives don't match, mine was married to Martha Moore. Possibly the daughter of Robert Moore. I also show that my John Simmons died between 1830 and 1835. This wife Martha went ahead and later migrated with her kids to Missouri. I do know that from family stories.

This John Simmons had a son John Simmons who is also my grandfather, he was born 1806, but his wife was Elizabeth Smith, so again the wife doesn't match. He did not have another wife to my knowledge.

I don't know of any James connection, or connect to Jesse James? But their likely is not enough work done on this yet to tell anyway.

According to a article Pioneers of Dickson Co. Tn on 4-8-1817 Ruth Simmons estate is entered and David Pasmore was administrator of estate. David Pasmore was the husband of Ruth's sister Abegail Craig. I'm not sure about the article, but I believe she did move there soon after 1800. Not sure which son she moved there with. I show her husband as John Simmons. There was a John and Ruth Simmons listed at the wedding of another sister (Joanna Craig to a William Griffith) of Ruth's in Warington, York Co. PA 8-21-1763.
