Sorry it took so long to respond. I didn't get this message until now. I doubt we're related since I know that the name
Cann wasn't changed (at least not after the Revolution) because my great grandfather joined the
Sons of the American Revolution and traced the name back to a John
Cann who was born in Ireland, moved to
Delaware and then finally settled in
New Jersey -- it was around 1776 when he lived in
New Jersey. I have his military record. His father left him in the care of his uncle (father's brother) whose name was Charles
Cann. I suspect Charles left the country around the time of the war and moved to
Nova Scotia. Can't prove it. John's father was
Abraham and he was from
Bristol England. If any of this rings true, please get back to me, but at
