Yes, I believe that you are a distant relative of my husband. I am looking for a direct line
MALE Williams to enter the
Williams family DNA project to confirm the relationship and form a family group for others to connect to. We have a male from my husband's line in the project who is sitting in an unmatched group waiting for a match.
My husband's
Williams connection is through his g-grandmother, Amanda S
Williams (1852-1917) who married
Emanuel Burgess (1822-bef 1900). Amanda was the daughter of Harvey J
Williams (1826-1903) and Nancy Jane
Orr (1830-1905). Harvey was the son of Patrick J
Williams (1787-1842) and Lucy Nicholas (abt 1792-187?). Patrick was the son of John
Williams (1762-1822) and Margaret
McCorkle (1768-1827).
John
Williams and Margaret
McCorkle had 11 children, (documented by a
Bible record kept by a descendant of their 5th child):
Patrick, Samuel, John,
Hannah, James
McCorkle, Mildred, Matthew,
Evans, Jonathan, Margaret, & Elizabeth Ray.
If I am correct, your great-grandfather, Lemuel
Williams, is a son of Elisha
Renshaw Williams and Louise
Williams. Elisha was a son of John
Williams, also known as Major John
Williams, 3rd son of John
Williams and Margaret
McCorkle.
Major John
Williams served in the War of 1812 with a unit from Union District, SC, documented by a pension application filed by his widow, Letitia. My husband's ancestor, Patrick, served in this same unit. Major John married a
Jones woman, possibly named Mary, before 1814. He moved to
Trigg Co,
KY by 1820, most likely with a group which included his in-laws and at least one of his brothers, Matthew, who married Sarah
Jones, a sister to Major John's wife.
Major John moved to
Sangamon Co IL by 1830. Sometime before 1836, his wife died. Major John returned to
Trigg Co KY and married Letitia
Jones, sister of his 1st wife, Mar 3 1836. By 1840, Major John moved to
Hancock Co IL where he remained until his death.
