In a 1759 marriage record from Steegen, the groom, Peter Möller (married Maria Gusten), is listed as of "Neustädlichen Eller Walde". Was this a term for Neustäderwald near Jungfer, or Ellerwald outside of Elbing - or another place?

Gregory, yes, Neustädter Ellerwald was an old name for Neustädterwald in the district (in German: Kreis) of Elbing in
West Prussia.

Neustädterwald is now known by the Polish name Gozdawa.

I assume, then, that the Lutheran parish for this village must have been Jungfer. Do you, by chance, know if any pre 1798 records exist?

Gregory, yes, the Lutheran residents of Neustädterwald did attend church in nearby Jungfer (now known by the Polish name Marzecino). Prior to 1798, Neustädterwald's Lutheran residents attended church in nearby Fürstenau (now known by the Polish name Kmiecin).

If you live near a Mormon Family History Center, you can obtain and view there on microfilm Jungfer's Lutheran church records covering the years 1798 to 1911, and Fürstenau's Lutheran church records going back to 1680.

I had looked at Jungfer records for another line, but did not know if the church started in 1798 or if earlier records were just lost. Had looked at some Fürstenau records from 1780's but they did not seem to include the Jungfer area, though it looked like the closest church. I will look at those records again.

Do you by chance, know where the residents of Stuba & Zeyer would have attended church prior to 1774 when the Zeyer records seem to start?

I came across this thread and wondered if your research panned out in the last 4 years. I have ancestors born in Stuba, Jungfer, and Elbing in the 1830s-1870s. I ordered the films for the Jungfer church (208169-71), but found nothing. Should I head for Furstenau or try a chuch in Elbing? Any hints on narrowing that down?

I also have ancestors from these places too. First, the Jungfer records only go back to the 1790s but the church building (which is still there, though now Catholic)looks much older. I checked Furstenau and Tiegenort for earlier records for the Jungfer area, but it became obvious those churches did not cover that town (at least for most of the 18th century). The earlier church records for the Jungfer area probably existed but are now apparently missing.

The church records from Zeyer cover Stuba (start in 1774)and other nearby towns. Note - the 1710-1770 records for Fichthorst, just northwest of Elbing, are mistakenly under St. Annen Church, Elbing. I looked at those for family that lived in Hoppenau. My family names in Stuba/Zeyer area: Jahn, Baarwich, Likfett, Fidler, Glodd.
