What exactly are you looking for? Do you have the names of the people who raised her? I found a Susan Perkins as a sister-in-law, widowed, born in Arkansas, living in Texas in 1880 with children, but I am not sure it is her. Do you have any other information?

That wasn't the right one. She is on the 1880 census but with her husband and some of her children. She was born in Dardenelle Ak 22 Jun 1855. She married Alexander Barnard Camel Perkins 30 Aug 1873 in Gatesville, Coryell Co,TX. They had 11 children born in Hamilton, TX. The last one was my grandmoter Nellie Perkins, born 4 Jul 1898. Susan died 16 Aug 1899 and is buried in Perkins Cementery in Hamilton Co, TX. I don't know if Wood was the name of the people that raised her or her real name. My grandmother wouldn't talk much about her and now she's dead. If you could help trace Susan back to her parents I would really appreciate it. It keep coming to a dead end. I think all her children are dead since my grandmother was the yougest. She lived to be almost 106. Thanks

Surnames: Woods Perkins
Without additional information, it will be hard to help. Have you located Susan on the 1860 census? She would be about five years old and possibly still living in Dardanelle. What about the 1870 census? Is Woods the name Susan used when marrying? Did she know Alexander before they went to Texas? Did Susan go with her family and meet him there? What else do you know about the family who raised her? Have you looked for a newspaper article about Nellie? Someone who lived to be 106 is newsworthy. How about an obituary? A death certificate? Any clues on those? You might find obituaries for each of Nellie's siblings, hoping for more information on their mother. What about Alexander Perkins? An obituary? A mention in a Hamilton, Texas history? Where was he in 1870? Anything else you can tell us could help. Janet

My guess would be that if she knew this information or where to find it, then she probably wouldn't be asking for some help.

The Susan Woods listed as Woods Perkins on the 1880 census is my great grandmother. I reconize the names. I was wondering if the Susan Woods listed above her may have been her mother that raised her. My grandmother said that her parents, both Cherokees, were killed and she was raised by white people. I don't know if her name was Woods before or not. Her husband was a cattle driver and they met while he was on a cattle drive. She went to Texas and married in 1873. I don't know if she was in Arkansas when they met or not. I can't find where she was all the years between. One of her daughters, Susan Ann Perkins, ended in Oklahoma and died in 1963. My mother has my grandmothers birth certificate and it just lists Susan and Alexander as her parents. I found some of her children on the Dawes roll in Oklahoma but as for as I know my great grand mother was never in Oklahoma. Thanks

I don't have too much information. My grandmother never talked about her mother. She said she was native american. She married Alexander Barnard Perkins in Gatesville, TX 30 Aug 1873. I'm not sure if the Susan Woods on the census was related or not. My greatgrand mother had 11 children all born in TX.

My grandmother Nellie lived in TX when she passed away. There was nothing listed in her obituary about her parents because she never said. She was only 1 when her mother passed away. She stay in touch with a few of her family but never metioned them to me. When my mother passed away in November I found two letters written by two sisters in 1940. I know Alexander Perkins met Susan in Arkansas and she moved to TX to get married.

The Woods Perkins listed on the 1880 census was my great grand mother. The Susan C you said was listed in the 1860 Census may have been my great grand mother. I'm trying to go back futher than Susan Woods Perkins.
