I am looking for more information on George McKee from Wisconsin. He was born in 1851 I think. He married Rachel (maiden name unknown). They had two children that I know of .... Georgia and Helen.

Georgia married Frank Maynard.

Thank you

It's a shot in the dark - my name is Brett Johnson and was born and raised in Milwaukee. Have an ancestor Mckee and
I believe his first name to be George. He had a connection
to someone named Bowen and someone in this line was born
on a ship between Scotland and Ireland. My mother had an
uncle Frank Maynard in Wisconsin (born in the state of Washington?)but,he was married to a woman named Virginia.
However, uncle Frank may be a Jr. and we think his dad was
married to a woman named Georgina. Sorry if this is a goose
chase but, there are few to none Maynards in the Milwaukee
area that are not related. If you have/need more info my
mom can help.

Hi Brett

This sounds like the same family. Do you know if Frank had a brother John (Jack) D. Maynard?

I called my mom and she says she remembers another
brother that was called Jack or maybe it was John.
I'll try to tie this all together. I told you all I know
about the McKee connection. I do have photos of George
McKee and his wife, as well as, their ancestors Mr. and Mrs.
Bowen.
From them comes this Maynard connection.
I have a great-great grandfather George Maynard and I
have some of his government documents from his service
in the civil war, should you ever want that.
So here is my small part of the tree.
Frank, Walter, and a Jack/John were brothers.
Walter had 5 daughters - one of which is my mother.
My mother never met her uncle Jack/John.
She did however know her uncle Frank Maynard.
She says he was an outstanding and kind man.
My Dad would tell me stories about this "uncle
Frank" that I myself, had never met. Frank
was in China during the Boxer Rebellion and he
wrote letters home about what he witnessed. My
Dad would tell me the stories because, he had read
these letters. He was really impressed by Frank's
ability to make the reader really feel like they
were there. My dad still talks about these letters
to this day. I do not know who has these letters.
I hope this fills in the gaps for you and let me
know if you want copies of papers and/or photos
I have.(The photos come from Frank and his wife
Virginia with a letter of the family tree but, my
mom lost the letter - rats!)
Also, if you need more info my mom will help but,
she is up in years and I'm afraid the memories are
starting to fade a bit.

Any copies of letters and photos would be great. My husband's grandma has never met her dad (John Maynard) and she would like to know about him and his family. The biggest question she has is if she has any brothers or sisters.

Here is what I know about John Maynard.
John was born in Wahpeton, North Dakota on Oct 13 1899 and died on March 8, 1971 on Longview, Washington. I do know that Frank and John are buried in the same cemetery in Washington. John married Lillian Kampa on April 22, 1922 in Marble, Minnesota. (I have a copy of their marriage record) They lived in Portland, Oregan for awhile. Then they got a divorce in 1925. Before I started doing this grandma did not even know when he was born. She did know he had brothers Frank and Walter.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you.
I'm trying to piece this all together with my
mom's help - but as I said, her memory is
fading. So your husband comes from John's
line and my mom cannot add any more than
he was the brother of Frank and Walter.
Here is how I see the tree.
Someone (a woman?) with the last name of
Bowen was born on a ship between Scotland and
Ireland. I think this is the woman in the picture
with the man. Down the line is a George McKee who
was from Ireland or Irish descent - who is in Wisconsin
at some point. He is the man in the picture outdoors.
His wife is the woman pictured in the wicker chair.
They have a daughter Georgia who marries Frank Maynard.
They have 3 sons Frank (jr.?), John and Walter.
Walter marries and has 5 daughters- one of which is
Carol. She is my mother.
All this info comes by way of her uncle Frank's wife.
The letters were lost but, I ended up with the photos.
I took the photos and had them "cleaned" up years ago.
The Civil War discharge is a copy by way of my cousin
who use to work at the Smithsonian. He met a relative
some years ago who had George Maynard's battle sword.
If you Google George, you will find some archive from
Clark county Wisconsin - where he lived- you'll find
great stories going back to our ancestor, Ethan Allen.
My grandfather Walter, was in gassed in WWI. His
uniform with gas mask use to be on display at the
Wisconsin Museum in Madison, Wisconsin.
I'm attaching the copies. If you want better copies
I could mail them to you.
I'm not really an ancestry buff but, now my interest
is kinda' tweaked. So anything Maynard or McKee I
would be interested in. I'm in my fifties and I'm
starting to forget stories and history that have
been passed down. My mom also said to mention she
had a cousin growing up named John Wayne Maynard and
he lived in Wisconsin.
Brett Johnson
Town of Erin (Hartford, Wisconsin)
can also reach me at brettjoh@msn.com
if you need more information
PS when my cousin calls me back I'll ask him what
he knows about the family history.
The pictures are lousy because I left them
in the frames. Just tell if you want the pictures
scanned or copies made at a photo store - which
I would be happy to do.

Here are better scans of the pictures and civil war document.
I said the couple together in the photo were named Bowen.
That's wrong. I remember now that it was Boden!.
We were told this part of the tree was Irish and further
back was Scottish. These surnames would be consistent with that.
