Hallo!
If you are interested there is a rather small place called Torja (Háromszék country in Transylvania;Rumania today) where there are two main interesting things: one church and a castle which was owned by the family Apor. The name of Apor was registered 1307 for the first time
The historic family of Apor moved there during 18th century from the castle of Bálványos where they already had great estates and houses.
The castle is a mix of early renaissance and popular baroque. In its main porticus (hall) there are three ensignments in Latin: a stone with the Farkas and Apor family weapons (from 1640) and a third the Latin epitafium with weapon of the Apor family (moved here from the church at Altorja). Above the stone frame of the entrance port one can still recognise two inscriptions the initials of the builders, István Apor and his wife, Zsuzsanna (with the date: 1693). It has nice stucco decorations on the walls - some renovations oin 1994 revealed some older ornaments under these stuccos.
The castle has been renovated and rebuilt several times during the years: on its courtyard there are though two houses: one is the grain silo the other the birth place of Péter Apor, the famous Hungarian writer during the 17th c.
Today some of the re-settled family members (Csaba Apor jr and sr) live there.
A statue of Péter Apor (made by the sculpture József Miholcsa) waits to be displayed. Another of the toso sculptures of his can be seen in the Maria-chapel and the grave chapel is decorated by Vilmos Apor's plate.
Further, one can find names of Lázár (1784-1868), the Transylvanian Court's Chancellor, and his grandson, Gábor Apor (1851-1898)- father of Vilmos - , the "alispán" (kind of major) of Háromszék county in the grave chapel.
¨So much for now, I hope you are still interested.
Best regards,
Katalin Henriksson
