Tracing Zenner from or in Luxembourg.

My ancestors include Zenners from known places in Luxembourg.

Your post needs more information: immigration to where in U.S.; names and dates; other known info about origins. How do you know your Zenners are from Lux?

to Mary Clauss: My George Zenner was born 1837in Beauforte, near Diekerch, Lux. (so its told). He came to America in 1872, resident of Michigan in 1873 when he married Caroline Remus in Fon du lac, Wi. Lived in FDL about 28 years before coming to Eastern Washington where he died in 1906. My family is also from Canton Diekirch, from such towns as Reisdorf, Hoesdorf, Bigelsbach, etc. I haven't had time to find Beauforte yet, but all those towns are just stones throws from each other. My gggrandfather was Nicholas Jacob Zenner who came to Chippewa Co., WI, around 1867 and married a Bohemian named Mary Migel. His parents were John (Jean) Zenner and Catherine JUNGELS from Canton Diekirch. Their family was large and 5 of the children settled in Chippewa Co.

I have found so much information since I learned to locate Lux microfilms and read the essential info from them. Let me know if you have not discovered these sources of data. You will need to do that if you want more on your family. It would be nice to add cousins!

At the bottom of that page, hit Proceed button
Type in Zenner and pull down Beauforte. You'll probably get an error reading? Then go to each Canton and read the results. These are only listed as 1853 to 1863, so don't give up. Your Zenners could be living in a very nearby village. You can try any surname here and see what pops up all around the country.

Now go back to Tables Decennales (the 2nd URL above) and at the bottom, you'll see the phrase for Parish/Civil records. Click it.
At the bottom of that page, hit Proceed button and you'll be able to pull up records for EVERY POSSIBLE little town and village.

Pull down Beauforte in Canton Echternach and voila! lists of every possible event and the microfilm available at the LDS.

Don't forget to read all the info about the Tables Decennales. Too bad they only put the one 10 year cycle on the website, but it does give you a good feel for who lives where.

This is what I have discovered: one life time is not enough for all the fun I have doing this.
Also, note the recent post by Chris about his Zenners attending church at Echternach. Could be a connection there, too!

Mary - Thanks so much for the Lux info - I went thru it as you suggested. Now to get ahold of some of the films. I take it you cannot check them out on the computer?? I tried and didn't get anywhere.I think akll of the Beauforte, Wisconsin & Washington entries were done by two of my cousins (family search).

Mabel, I've only found 2 sources of these microfilms: LDS which loans the films AT their sites and Luxembourg City archives if you're in the position to visit there. Apparently ALL the records of Lux were filmed, so no additional research is really necessary.

I have many Zenner cousins around Chippewa Co., but no contact with anyone in the Lux area. It such a small country...

which is one I watch. They publich Genealogies of different towns; the most recent is "Genealogy of Stadtbredimus" in which they literally connect together all the people of the town from the films.
Great, huh? That's what we need for our towns! Bookmark this site. They've already done Remich, Wellenstein, Remerschen Burmerange. These were heavy emigration sites at one time which is why the authors chose them.
Anyway, keep reading and learning. And update this list when you can.

I simply would like to say that all I know is that my Great Grand Father was Phillip Zenner who was born in Dubuque Iowa, and that his parents were from Luxembourg, he married my Great Grandmother Emily Craft from Berne Switzerland.
My Grandfather was born in Portland Oregon - Arnold Steven Zenner, and then my father Richard Arnold Zenner, and then myself, Lance Richard Zenner. We have 5 generations of Zenner's who have lived out west here in Portland , Oregon.
I do know that our origins come from Luxembourg.
My Grandfather who was born here in Portland in 1903 had a story that he told me about two Zenner twins who came over on a boat from Europe and had split up once they arrived in New York. The story goes that they never made contact with each other after that. So we have assumed that we surely have Zenner relatives floating around the eastern half of the U.S. at least.

Can you tell me Phillip's birth date?

Philipp Zenner, 3, [note spelling of given name] b. Iowa

no other census records until - Philip and family in the 1920 census - precinct 301 Ruselville, Multnomah County, Oregon. He is a farmer - assume you have the details on this family.

Cannot find Stefan arriving New York as an immigrant. Do have the first name of the person who may have immigrated with him?
