Dereham Township Burial Records
I am searching for burial records or places for any members of the Provorse family, who were shingle makers in Dereham Township, Oxford County between the 1820's - 1850's.
John Provorse was reportedly born about 1771 in the USA, and came to Canada. His wife Jemimah was also born in the USA about 1781. They were in Dereham Township by 1816 (possibly well before that date).
We do NOT know when John Provorse died, but by 1854, virtually his entire family had left Canada (without him).
ANY information on where he might be buried, or on his actual date of birth/death, would be very greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have tried it, with no success at all.
Thank you.

Re: Dereham Township Burial Records
Thanks, but they were not there.
I am afraid that any markers on their graves are long gone, and there is no longer any record of them.
Even transcripts of the 1851 census almost always have their surname spelled incorrectly (most commonly Provost).
Thanks for the help.
They are like my Wright's in Durham County. They were Loyalists, and very well documented as being in that county by 1788, but no trace of any of their graves has ever been found, and none of them appear in the 1851 Census (they seem to have been in the part of the Durham County census that was destroyed).
It's funny that my family in Nova Scotia can be tracked back to 1764, and my family in Manitoba can be tracked back to the 1790's, but in Ontario (which supposedly had MUCH better civil and church records), they disappear.
Oh well, that's genealogy for you. I've been trying to find those people for over 40 years now, and have no more accurate information on them then I did back then.
Thanks again,
Lynton (Bill) Stewart

Re: Dereham Township Burial Records
Have you tried Find A Grave? They are most likely not on there but if you know which cemetery, you can add the name and ask for a photo.

Re: Dereham Township Burial Records
I am very active on Find-A-Grave, but I don't have a clue about what cemetery they are in.
Thanks.

Re: Dereham Township Burial Records
Thanks, I knew about all of them in the 1851/52 census.
What I really need is to know where John and jemimah Provorse were buried.
