I read the obituary for a person who died in Dickson County on 12 Jan 2006. The obit stated that interment was in East Dickson Cemetery. Is that a new cemetery? Is the cemetery known by another name?

I don't know of a cemetery that goes by the name of East Dickson cemetery. There is a Dickson (or Dickson County) Memorial gardens located about five miles east of Dickson on U.S. Highway 70. It is a relatively new and large cemetery and may be the one you're looking for. You can contact Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, TN and can probably get information on interrments.
