My approximate given birth date is 22Dec65. I was at Star of the Sea orphanage until Oct.1970, I was adopted to America. I was abandoned when I was three weeks old. I remember the orphange being close to a river or stream and the back of the orphange was a market. The orphanage was one level and had stucco type look on the outside and was like a biege color or off white. I am wanting to know if this orphanage may exist yet or if a new one was replaced on that site. My Korean name was Jung Ae Nam- that was my given name at the orphanage.

It is great to hear from someone that was at the same orphanage as me and about the same time. How old were you at the orphanage from 1963-1973? It looks like you were at the orphanage for quite awhile. Hope to hear back from you.

Re: Jung Ae Nam 1965 Star of the Sea Orphanage
Hi!!..I was adopted to a family in America in 1966 so you were in the infant section while i was there. Where in America are you located. I am now living in Louisiana. Update on Star 0f The Sea Orphange: it has been shutdown because most of the children had been adopted and they did not need such a large facility. They are now located closer to Seoul near a university and the students studying child care or related fields come in and do their Internship at the orphange. Please keep in contact with me!!!....

I was so excited to hear that there was someone there at the same time I was at the orphanage and remembers me. I live in Hutchinson, Minnesota. What is your name and where do you live? I am hoping to find someone with some connections to the Star of the Sea Orphanage at about the same time I was there. It was great to hear that you were there. Please write back. Jodi

Re: Jung Ae Nam 1965 Star of the Sea Orphanage
I am presently living in Baton Rouge, LA. My name is Sou. Have you ever tried to find your parents in Korea? That is my next mission. I posted a message on this board to find out if others were at Star of the Sea Orphange during 1961-1966 and are living in the states. It would be awesome to have a Reunion!!!....do you remember the Bishop who used to be at the orphange (Bishop McNaughton)? Are you married, have a family, what do you do for work?....I am widowed (12 yrs.), no children, am a Rehabilitation Counselor & Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and working for the university i received my Master's degree in. So glad you responded back!!!.....
Keep the line of communication open!!.....Sou

Re: Jung Ae Nam 1965 Star of the Sea Orphanage
Hi Sou, I wouldn't know where to begin looking for my parents. I was found abandoned on the streets by some nuns in the middle of winter and taken in to Star of the Sea Orphanage. There is absolutely no record of my birth and my parents left no papers on me. That would be so cool to have a Star of the Sea Orphanage reunion. How old were you when you left in 1966 that you remember me? I finally was adopted in October 1970. I am married and have 5 children. They are 19, 17, 14, 9, and almost 8. I had them all c-section. 2 of them were over 8lbs, 2 were 7lbs, and only one was 6lbs. They were all nice and healthy. I am a paraprofessional (special education aid) but I am currently working on getting a teacher degree. By the end of December I will hopefully have accomplished that. Do you have any memories of the orphanage? I do. I also remember going to Seoul at Korea Social Service and waiting there till I went to America, approximately one week later. That was quite the experience I will not forget. It is so awesome to hear back. Jodi
