Vineland Churches

Hi,
My great grandmother died in Vineland in 1913. I was wondering what churches were in the area which she may have been buried from. She was a member of a Reformed church in NYC before she moved to Vineland. That was a German Presbyterian church. Maybe there was a similar church around Vineland in those days?
Thank You,

Bill

I've never heard of a German Presbyterian Church. The Reformed Church was usually either a Dutch or German Reformed Church. The Reformed Churches I believe later joined with, or became, the United Church of Christ.

In Cumberland County I'd think that someone who had been a member of the Reformed Church might well have joined the Methodist or Baptist Church.

In Queens N.Y. she belonged to the German Reformed church. I was hoping there was somthing similar in Vineland.

My great grandfather attended some sort of German church. I do not have the information here, but I can get the name of it easily. I don't know if it still exists, but I will be looking into that in the future. What was her name?
regards, Dave

Dave,
Thanks for the offer. My GGrandmothers name was Mary Welsh. I doubt if the church still exists, but maybe the records do somewhere. Please let me know how you make out. I live on Long Island and I may be in Vineland in July.

The above link is a map of the area from about 1871. In the upper right part of the map, there is a house shown with the owners name T. Welsh. I was looking for Lind, and Welsh on it. Could be a help to you.I hope so. I didn't find my people on it as I believe they were renting at the time. They did not buy property until about 1890 or so. I tried calling my cousin who has the chgurch info, but they were not home. My sister has a copy but she said it's burried in a box somewhere. There may have been four such churches in the area. I have a good friend who probably knows where to get the names and locations.Hope your having a good weekend, and remember our vets!!
Regards, Dave

Dave,
My GGdandmother only moved to Vineland after 1910. She lived there with her son until she died in 1914. She is buried in Siloam Cemetery. Her son continued to live in Vineland. He was a farmer.I do not know when he died. I am still researching him to try & find out what happened to him. I have written to the cemetery several times for info but they never get back to me. I have tried calling them, but always get a machine. I do not leave a message as I'm sure they will not respond as they do not answer my letters. I would like to find an obit for her if it exists or a church record.
Thank you for your interest in my endevor. If i can pay back, I will.
I am a Navy vet and today is very special to me.

Hi Bill,
I was at Siloam yesterday, a bit under prepared. I found most of what I was looking for. I will be going back to Vineland soon, and will remember to bring the name of the person who you are looking for with me. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful, and copied the records of the members of my family who are there. I have a feeling I will be spending a few more afternoons finishing my searches. If you come down in July let me know. Next time I go, I will ask him about the person you are looking for. I still havn't talked to my cousin with the church record yet. I'm sure the historical society will have a list of the churches. That will be another one of my stops.
Regards, Dave

Thank you for your interest in my case. I contacted the Vineland historical society yesterday and nice lady named Kate found my GGrandmothers obit. I did not say much or anything new.Did you get the name of the gentleman at Siloam. He sounds very helpful. Maybe he would find the grave location for me. I will be in Vineland on Sat. July 25. I will be returning from Baltimore and will stop in Vineland on my way to Long Island. I now think my GGrandmother was to old to go to church anymore, so there are probably no church records on her. She was 85 when she died in 1914. Good luck in your research. I have been at mine for about 6 years now and still have along way to go.
Take care,
Bill

Dave,
I called Siloam Cemetery last thursday and talked to the cemetery manager Terry. He was the most pleasant and helpful fellow. We talked for about 15 minutes. He gave me the location of my GGrandmothers grave. He told me there might not be a marker on the grave as it is in an old section of single graves. He answered all my questions about the cemetery and the grave site that I had. I still plan on going to Siloam either on my way down to Baltimore or on my way up.
