Karolyn, I made an error on my first message. The name of my ancestors in Scotland were James Law born 6/6/1825 died 16/12/1879 and Ann Souter born 1/11/1822 died 12/6/1883. They are buried with their son William born 3/6/1852 died 21/8/1872.
Apparently at least 3 sons and 2 daughters headed to North America. One daughter died in transit and the other one never married she was Bella (or Isabella) Law, she lived in Lyndon New Jersey.
My e-mail is susanjlaw2000@yahoo.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you.

Susan,
Was surfing the net and I found your listing for James Law.My gr.gr.gr grandfather was James Law born in Rhynie in 1772.He married Elizabeth Wisely. They had children Mary b1805 Margaret b 1809 James b 1811 and Alexander b 1818. James married Helen Massie in Rhynie in 1845. After his parents died he left Scotland with his family and his sister Margaret in 1855 and settled in Canada.
Do you think we can make a connection

Dear Linda,
There may be a connection but my relatives were James and Ann (Souter) Law. Their son James born 1854 went to New York and worked as a Doctor. He married Annie Cameron.
I have had another message from someone else in Canada but I didn't keep it ,so am unable to pass it on to you. I think they mentioned Helen Massie also. it was from a young woman called Karen (I think) so you may already know her.
I have visited Rhynie and went to the cemetary, there were a lot of Law graves. I found my gr gr grand parents and one of their sons.
They also seemed to have used many of the same names which of course make find info difficult. As we also have an Alexander in our family history.
Happy hunting.

I was browsing the Rootsweb site when I came across postings from 2000 and 2006. I hope Susan is still taking an interest in her Scottish family as I am fairly sure her Rhynie family come from the parish of Auchindoir and Howmill in particular.
My interest in this family arrises from the marriage of William LAW, b 1766 Howmill to Elizabeth LAW, b 1771 Cloghill in parish of Newhills. I have not been able to prove it but I think I am from Elizabeth's side of the family and probably related to both branches.
