Keehn, Joseph

Surnames: Keehn; Adams
My grandfather, Joseph F. Keehn was born Feb 1869 in Illinois. His father from Germany, mother from Ireland. He married Emma L Weisense or Weisensese or a spelling similar, unable to decipher. Emma was born in Illinois, Jan 1868, Father and mother, Mina Weisense (sp?) born in Germany. Mina Weisense (?) immigrated from Germany in 1856.

Emma was 1 of 3 siblings. Possible a Caspar Weisense whom I located in Walla Walla Wa Census was a brother or uncle, he was born in Bavaria, as were his parents.

Joseph F Keehn was a barber in Ida Grove County Iowa, he died in May 1903. He was in the Keehn & Lancaster Barbershop in June 1897 per an article found.

Emma eventually married a Mr. Adams. They ended up in Manteca/Lathrop/Stockton, CA area in 1920's or earlier. No Keehn's in Ida Grove 1920 Census. They owned a dairy farm which my brother, born in 1921 recalls visiting.

My father was Dewey Carl Keehn, born May 29, 1898, Ida Grove, he had two brothers, JP born June 1891, Ida Grove; R. R., born Feb 1894, Ida Grove. He also had a sister, possibly Margaret/Mildred (?) married to a man, first name Carl (can't recall last name) (Recall he was in a nursing or care home in Sonora, CA at time of his death) She had a daughter, Imogene, who had a son named Carl Roy ?.

Emma Louise Adams (She went by Louise) was living in the town of Stockton, possibly 4th street (was there in 1950's) she died in 1950's I believe. Looking for any information regarding this family. Would especially like to find Imogene or her descendants. Expect she is in her 70's at this time.

I have additional information on Joseph Keehn. My Grandfather was Joseph Jr. My Gr. Grandfather was Joseph Sr. Sr. had Seven children, at the time of his death 1903, he was survived by Charles, Henry and John of Hawarden; Iowa; Thomas of Akron, Iowa; Joseph Jr. of Ida Grove; and Misses Mary and Katie of Lemars, IA.

Joseph Sr. born in Germany, December 25, 1834, had been in American 47 years at time of death (1903)

He originally located at Freeport, ILL, moved to Iowa and resided for a number of years at LeMars, IA. He moved into sons home in about 1893 and lived with him until death in 1903. I know his wife was from Ireland, don't have name yet, have to check LeMars census' and also will go to Freeport, Ill records.

Plan to check on Hawarden, Ia and Akron, IA to see if I can find his other sons (my uncles)

Anyone with any information/or links to this Keehn, would enjoy hearing from you.

I can't help you with the location of those relatives
your seeking. Nevertheless, I am just beginning a study of "Weisensee" family genealogy. I don't have close contact with my father's side of the family so my information is limited. I have a good number of
Weisensee relatives in Iowa, South Dakota and neighboring
states. I thought I would post simply to inform you of
usual spelling of that surname in case your interested.

If I come across anything incidental to your family
in my research I'll be sure to let you know. Good luck.

Thank you for response. Since 2001 have found more info. However, looking for Peter or J. Peter Weisensee. Know great grandfather was in Civil War with Iowa Company. I know of relatives to he and wife Mina are still living. But unable to find them. Believe a relative in Curtis family lives in Dakotas? All seem to be from around area of Ida Grove, Iowa. Possible Peter and Mina were wed in NY prior to arriving in Iowa. If you do find anything I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

I have the death certificate of Charles Michael Keehn, son of Joseph Keehn of Germany. According to the death certificate, Charles' mother was Katherine Mockler of Ireland. The informant on the certificate was Lee Keehn of Hawarden IA.

There are two Catherine Keehns buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Hawarden. Catherine 1842 to 1923 and Catherine W., died 5/8/1931 aged 59. The first Catherine would be more likely to be Joseph's wife...if that is the case, then Joseph's death certificate listing the year 1903 and "widower" would be incorrect. However, Katherine's death certificate lists HER as widowed when she died at age 81 on July 13, 1923 , her husband being Joseph Keehn. Her parents are listed as Patrick and Johanna both of Ireland. On her death certificate, her maiden name is listed as Muckley (on Charles Michael's death cert. it is listed as Mockler).

According to Hazel Keehn Wasser (daughter of Henry Keehn and Minnie Patrick), Joseph died on a farm near Merrill, IA (this isn't near Ida Grove, if I'm not mistaken), and Catherine died at her son John's home in Hawarden. Hazel also mentioned that Catherine was in Chicago during the great fire and spoke of it often.

I hope this information is helpful.

Ryan you responded to my old query regarding incorrect spelling of Weisensee. I have since found that Mina Weisensee was married to Peter John Weisensee (or John Peter) They lived in Ida Grove, Iowa. You mentioned you had family in Iowa and South Dakota. I now know there was family in South Dakota, but unsure of name, believe it was a daughter/or grandaughter.
I am their great grandaughter, their daughter Emma Louise was my grandmother (married names Keehn; Adams)

If you have further family info, please contact me.
Thanks

Oh, my goodness! How exciting to hear from you. It is late and I have to get up early tomorrow, but will email you either Friday evening or Saturday morning. I am so excited to find you! I received quite a bit of family info from Ida Grove, IA on GGGma MIna, but would love to have more. I do have a photo that was in my dad's things. Will send you a copy of it via email. That is what led me to Ida Grove and being able to find the Keehn "clan" but never have been able to locate a Weisensee.

TAke care, thanks for response!
