Alguien tiene informacion sobre el apellido YARZAGARAY?
Vivo en Aruba y hay una familia con ese apellido y dicen que es basco, pero no han podido conseguir mucha informacion.
Tambien hemos notado que en Cartagena, colombia hay varias personas con este apellido.

Does anyone have info on the Surname YARZAGARAY? It's from basque origin, but this family (from ARUBA) couldn't find more information. I also noticed that the name appears also in Cartagena, Colombia

El primer Yarzagaray que llego Aruba, no se la fecha exacta, se llamaba Jose Antonio se caso en 1804 en Aruba, vino de
Fuenterabia /Fuenterabienne (golfo de Viscaya). Viajo con un hermano quien tampoco se el nombre, hacia el 'nuevo mundo'. Y llegaron y se quedaron en Aruba (caribe).
Espero que esta informacion ayude a qualquiera que tenga mas informacion para compartir.

The first Yarzagaray to arrive in Aruba was named Jose Antonio Yarzagaray, we don't know when he arrived, but we know that he married in 1804, and that he came from Fuenterabia or Fuenterabienne (Golf of Viscaye). We also know that he travelled with a brother. They came to the 'new world' and they stayed in Aruba (Dutch caribbean island), where there's still a big family today. I hope that this info could help others who have info help me find the roots of this family.

This particular surname derrived from the surname IARZA originally was found in Guipuzcoa and in Columbia.

The meaning of IARZA is from the root "IAR" (Maple Tree) and the suffix "TZA" (showing abundance). The second part of the surname "GARAI" means the top or upper part (which in this case may apply to the trees, but most likely applies to the location of the house).

No coat of arms is mentioned for the derrivitive. There are many different coats for the surname IARZA.

Have you considered the possibility that your ancestor's surname may have been composed of two separate surnames that were later merged?

Yarza + Garay = Yarzagaray

There are several Yarza Garays in Vizcaya, so it could be that the same is true in Guipuzcoa. Good luck!

By the way, my grandfather was born in Aruba. His name was Eloy Ruiz Fanfer or Vanveer. I have been unable to locate him on the web. Do you have any suggestions on how to locate his birth records?

Hi.. I'm Milton H.R. Yarzagaray. Born on the island of Curacao (Next to Aruba) and my father was born on the island of Aruba. His name is Milton N. Yarzagaray and his father's name was Cornelis Yarzagaray. Further back then that I will have to check with elder family members yet most of what has been stated already sounds familiar to me. I was told the family name was Yarza Garay and that it's from the Basque regions of spain. If i manage to get my hands on any relevant details I'll make sure to post it here.
