Jane Carr / Titanic

My Great Aunt, Jane Carr was lost on the Titanic. She had lived in Hartford CT and was returning to the U.S on the Titanic to settle her affairs.
I know she was born in Castlerock, Aclare, Tobbercurry, County Ireland on July 14,1864. She was the daughter of Thomas Carr and Bridget Goldrick. One of her sisters was my Great Grandmother who's name became Mullarky upon her marriage. Does anyone have any information regarding the Carr's or Mullarkys?

Hi,
I just saw this quite old post so not sure if you are interested in a reply or have already received the information you need.
My mother is a Carr and a niece of Jane who was lost on the Titanic. She has plenty of information on the Carr's (and probably the Mullarkey's). Is there anything in particular you were looking for? (I guess Jane Carr is my Great Aunt too...)

hello-- I sm Mickey Danyluk, one of the historians in Windsor Locks, CT. Ironically-- I reside at 18 Maple Avenue, Windsor Locks-- the former home of Dr. Sidney Rogers Burnap where Jane Carr was a domestic. I am part of a town effort to save the historic train station here where Jane would have passed through. On April 14, 2012-- I will be conducting a memorial here, laying flowers in memory of Jane and on April 15, a Mass will be offered for her and other victims of the Titanic in St. Mary's Church here (built 1852) where jane would have attended Mass. Kindly contact me. 860 623-4143. ps

Hello -interesting to find this thread...I am from CT originally - my grandparents - last name Rabbett - lived on School Street in Windsor Locks. My grandfather Richard, Sr., son of Irish immigrants, was born in CT 1906. When I was a teenager he recalled as a boy aged 6 in 1912 how his parents visited neighbors close by to comfort them over the loss of someone they knew who had not survived the Titanic sinking. This story has stayed with me for more than 30 years and is probably the reason I developed into a lover of the great ocean liners and have collected thousands of pieces of ocean liner memorabilia. I am departing on a Titanic memorial cruise from NYC on April 10 and sailing to Halifax and then to out directly over the Titanic wreck site on April 14/15 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the disaster. In preparation for the upcoming trip, I was reviewing names of Titanic passengers traveling to CT to see if I could perhaps find anything about the person my grandfather recalled not surviving to arrive in Windsor Locks, which is how I came upon the name of Jane Carr. Was her body recovered and if so, where was she buried? Is anything else known about her?As a CT native of Irish descent (and since my grandparents grew up and died in Windsor Locks), I will honor them - and her - by memorializing Ms. Carr over the Titanic wreck site on April 14/15.

-Richard Rabbett III, Boston

dear Richard-- so glad you wrote! I knew your family as I was a paperboy on School St; I grew up around the corner on South Center Street. I am in the process of purchasing a house in WL and Patty Rabbett is my mortg officer. I believe the people your family comforted were the Shaughnessys (of 10 So Ctr St) good friends of Jane b/c Jane lived at 2 So Ctr St in the Ashley home. I will send you articles here of our observance and events; thanks for recalling Jane; I have a picture coming and more info from the Springfield paper where her sister worked. Hi
My name is Mary O'Leary Moynihan. I grew up on Pleasant St in Windsor Locks. I had heard of someone on Titanic who was bound for Windsor Locks. I found an interesting article in the recent issue of The Shanachie, newsletter of the CT Irish-Am Historical Society. Evidently, Jane Carr left her bank books in care of Michael and Catherine O'Leary, my great uncle and aunt. They lived on Church St, then on Chestnuts St. The article says that Mike O'Leary notified the WL Probate Court of the books and her estate was eventually probated with her relatives receiving small amounts of money. You can follow links on the Irish American Hist. Society page to get a PDF of the newsletter http://www.ctiahs.com/
