Castle Garden closed 18 Apr 1890. The Barge Office was then used till 31 Dec 1891. Ellis Island opened 1 Jan 1892. Where can the Barge Office records be found? My g grandmother Inga Petersdotter, b 21 Jun 1849, Asarum, Blekinge, Sweden, and five of her children, Hilda Gustafsdotter b 5 Jan 1877, Edvin Gustafsson b 10 Dec 1879, Bernhard Gustafsson b 19 Apr 1882, John Emanuel Gustafsson b 8 Aug 1884 and Sigrid Valborg Gustafsdotter b 5 Jun 1886, all left Sweden 9 Nov 1891. I can not find the date of their arrival. I believe that they would have arrived in New York, following the same route that my g grandfather, Gustaf Jaensson and their oldest daughter, Jenny Gustafsdotter, had traveled. They left Sweden 21 May 1886 and arrived in New York 24 Jun 1886. They took the name Johnson. They settled in Bayfield County, Wisconsin. Could Inga and the children have traveled under Johnson? Thank-You in advance

You say they left Sweden on 9 Nov 1891 - are they listed on Ancestry? If so, how are they indexed?

This info I got from a reply to my post I had posted on the Sweden board here on ancestry in 2009. I know they all made it cause I have tracked them to 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census.

All the children were baptized with the surname Jaensson.

Please visit the

or http://familysearchlabs.org/ if the above link doesn't work. (Record Search)

Using the advanced search - put in the parents name and you'll see what I mean.

So... we look for Gustafsson, could we be wasting our time? After you view the site, let me know.

Also, could you link the 1900 census record, I wouldn't mind taking a peek?

After Gustaf moves to Asarum parish in 1867, I lose track of him, as the online records at the SVAR website for Asarum parish are very limited. Hi Libra,

Here is some information I found in the Swedish Marriage records for Asarum. The record states that their were married on Nov 6 1867, they both were living at no. 100 Ljungsjömåla, Asarum, Blekinge. Their marriage record can be seen at GID: 100010.54.47900 if you have access to Genline.

Hope this helps!

Have a nice day!

Here is information on the family, although not much more than what you already have. This is from the 1890 Swedish census found at the SVAR subscription website (www.svar.ra.se). The 1890 census is the earliest census available at the SVAR website for Blekinge län (county). The census lists only birth year, not exact birth date.

1890 census:

Inga Petersdotter, born 1849 in Asarum parish, Blekinge län
Hilda, born 1877 in Asarum parish
Edvin, born 1879 in Asarum parish
Bernhard, born 1882 in Asarum parish
John Emanuel, born 1884 in Asarum parish
Sigrid Valborg, born 1886 in Asarum parish

The record indicates that Inga was married and that her husband was living in the U.S. as of 1890. Your information includes an older daughter, Jenny, born about 1870. She may have been living away from the rest of her family by 1890.

The SVAR website has detailed birth records for Asarum parish only for the period 1886-1894. I found this birth record:

Sigrid Valborg born 5 June 1886; parents Gustaf Jansson (age 44) and Inga Petersdotter (age 36); residence: No. 27 Asarum
Source: Asarum parish kyrkoarkiv, Födelse- och dopböcker [births and baptisms] Huvudserien, SE/LLA/13008/C I/10 (1886-1894)

From this record one can surmise that Gustaf Jansson was born in 1841-1842.

That's all I can find. I found the 1900 census. The rest of the info are replies from posts that I posted in 2009. I looked at the info you found at Family Search, an Wow! It`s them an one more. So... now I don`t know, what name to search under. I would say, have to search under all the names, starting with Jaensson. On the 1900, There is Esther T Johnson. She was Gustaf an Inga`s last child born, an was b in Mason, Bayfield County, Wisconsin.

One more question...

I do see a boat record that resembles Jenni and her father... but I'm not too sure it's them.

Can you tell me the name of the ship they traveled on?

Was it the Baltic?

Thanks for posting the information, I will see what I can dig up.

I have no idea on what ship Gustaf and Jenni traveled on. Sure would like to know. Why is it that can not find arrival date for Inga and five children? Find one, we find them all. Any way to find the names of all ships, that arrived in New York, Nov and Dec of 1891?
