Have you tried the Troy State University Library. They have an book of the History of the Mixon Family. It traces the lives of 5 brothers from Va. to Texas. A lot of the information is about southeastern Al.

i have not ever seen the mixon books that are housed at troy state. but, i have a cousin that has traced mixon geneology back to Kent, England.

some of what i know;
one of the first records of john mixon appeared in a complaint to the local sheriff concerning pirates off the carolina coast.

i live in alabama and i am thinking of going to troy state university to view the books in their library. i am primarily interested in recent history back until the time of the civil war.

my great-great-grandfather was "william brown mixon", he was the mayor of a small town in north alabama, he ran unsuccessfully for the alabama state senate. his grand-son "lecille clyde mixon jr." married the speaker-of-the-house's daughter. (rankin fikes being the speaker of the alabama state house.) i dont have exact dates and my father is not very interested, so i dont get much out of him.

if i go to troy state, i will make copies if possible of important information and share it with you.

I would love any of the stories you have access to. Especially the ones concerning my direct ancestors(Any of the John's). I think that makes it all much more interesting, makes them a person(not just a name and date). I contacted Troy state today about access to the books thru library loan, haven't heard back yet. Please send along whatever you can. If you will email me direct, I will send my address for you.

The books you mentioned are available at the Troy State University Library. You can go th your local library and they will contact the Troy library, and make arrangements for the books to be sent to your local library. You can contact the Troy library over the internet at the Troy State University website. The books are real interesting to read, you must research some to understand the way the author wrote the books. He took the lives of 5 brothers who settled in Virginia and traced their lives. My GGGrandfather was one of the brothers that was in the first chapters. I was mentioned on page(approx)38 of the first book. If you have any problems feel free to call me at 256 543 3025 in Gadsden, Al

I hope that this will help you.
