I am a newbie board user. I see that most posts are formatted into paragraphs for clarity but I cannot discover how this is achieved. Any formatting that I use when composing a post is discarded when I preview it, reducing it to one long string of text. What is the secret?

That is just a function of the preview.
When you actually post it the formatting shows up.
