Looking for anyone with Ogden connections. The Ogdens were in Durham around 1825, some eventually moving to Oshawa and the States in the early 1880's.

Re: OGDEN in Kendal/Orono
Hi liz, so good to hear from you. Orange is my third great grandfather. His father was Richard and Richard's father was Jonathan. From there I'm stumped. Are you living in Canada?

Hello John, Thank you for replying! I am Canadian actually I live in Scugog Township Ontario, which is about 25 minutes from where Orange lived in Clarke Township. I also was borned & raised in Newtonville Ontario-so I know the area pretty good. My relation is Isabella Layton-Ogden, Her sister is Elizabeth Layton my Great great Grandmother. I also know Isabella had a very tight knit family and her brothers & sisters would no doubt live close, and they did on neighboring farms. So Orange would be Isabella's father-in-law.? Another connection I have is Ellen Jane Seymour she was married to Orange Orin Ogden(Jacobs son), Ellen Jane was Elizabeths husbands sister.Maybe that contributed to the family rift. PS:I was told once that Jonathon father was also Orange M. Ogden-nothing to back it though. Look forward to next message. thanks lisa

Re: OGDEN in Kendal/Orono
Hi Lisa, William Henry Ogden, third child of Orange & Jane Ferguson Ogden was my 2nd great grandfather. I descend from his second son William Albert Ogden born in 1861 and moved to Chicago in 1880 and died in 1915.
I'm familiar with Miles Ogden and his wife Isabella Layton daughter of William Layton & Elizabeth Anderson. I saw at some point, I think in the late 1800's there was a lawsuit between Bella and Orange. I'm not sure why. Usually it's about money. I have a copy of the disposition of Orange's will with daughter Eliza Jane handling as executor. Nothing in it to indicate a problem with the family.
Is there anything specific you are interested in? I have found some other Ogden cousins in Ontario, Ruth Waite, and in British Columbia, Joan Thomson and another one who was the daughter of Orin Ogden, son of Daniel Ogden. I can't think of her name right now. Have you ever heard anything about the family claim that one of our ancestors was an Indian? Was Orange your great grandfather? I couldn't tell by your post because I got confused with the names.
Thanks John

Re: OGDEN in Kendal/Orono
Hi John,
Sorry about the confusion-excitement got the better of me! I would love a copy of the disposition of Orange's will-if you are able? I was told that Eliza Jane, Orange's daughter who he was living with when he died-had engineered the will and had him buried in Oshawa not in Orono with his wife & family. The lawsuit between Orange & Bella apparently was over the Clarke Twp land that Miles & Bella had, that's all I know, I got that from Ruth Waite. No Orange wasn't my great great grandfather-Isabella Layton was my connection(she would be my great great aunt), Orange just got rolled into it. Yes I did discover that there was an indian who married an Ogden, but I have NO proof except what was told to me-so far. will talk to you soon lisa

Re: OGDEN in Kendal/Orono
Orange had a brother Jonathan and named his first son John, although it might have been Jonathan. Jonathan was a very common name in the early Ogdens in Canada as well as John.
