Would like some dates and places to go with the names you have mentioned, so I check my records on the CT Oppelts that I have information on.

Dear Ron,

Thanks for the response. I’m sorry, I did not recognize you the other day as the Ron and Bobbie I had previously conversed with about Oppelt history. I put the genealogy thing to rest for a while and just happened onto the web site. I mailed you a note yesterday which you should get tomorrow if your address has not changed.

My family moved to CT in 1973 and some of them still live there. My father moved to the Detroit area around 1981. So, I don’t know if we collectively make up the Michigan and CT Oppelts to which your refer.

Before that, well, I go back to Gottfried Sebastian through James L., James E., Sylvester T., and Charles Henry. By the way, do you all have any idea why Sylvester didn’t go to Iowa like most of his family?

I was just looking through my files and read that you had travelled to Clarion, PA. That is where my great great grandfather Sylvester raised his family, in Piney Township specifically. Did you visit Piney? Do you know if Sylvester is buried there? Also, can you give me any info. on that family and its descendants. I have their names but I’m sure I haven’t put it all together as well as you and your wife have. It would be fun to make contact with someone else derived from that family.

I hope you are well!

Thanks again, Bob Oppelt

Nice to hear from you again Bob. It has been awhile since we communicated.

Two years ago, we went to Goerlitz and Herrenhut, Germany. The records at Herrenhut did not yield much more than we found at Bethlehem, PA and the cemetery was in such poor condition, it was impossible to read the headstones. However, what we did find, we will share with you. I hope that you will send me your email address, so we can communicate directly.

We agree with your thoughts about sharing data. We have given out lots of data on the net and many times the respondent disappears without ever reciprocating. However, we have also found a number of correspondents who are willing sharers of information, so the good offset the bad at these sites.

The reason certain male Oppelts left Iowa is because they all attended Clarion College and then stayed on after marrying in Clarion, PA. Sylvester Theodore Oppelt was one of them. He married circa 1850 in Clarion and died in Piney Twp on Jan 25 1804. He is supposed to be buried in the Churchville Licking Presbyterian Cemetery. We never did find the actual location of his grave because we did not go to Piney Twp. His wife, Elizabeth is also buried with him, along with at least two of their children. He died of pneumonia and his wife had a heart attack.

Our data on the Oppelt family is extensive, and it keeps growing. Happy to give you what we have.

HI Ron,
Thanks for the info. on the Ohio-PA spread. We should visit sometime and talk about all this stuff rather than me milking you for tidbits.
At this point my main interest is to see better how the story of Sylvester Oppelt and his family /descendants unfolded. My records, which are admittedly scattered, indicate that three of his children, Frank, John, and William, and their families, were still in PA in 1910. I'd appreciate it if you could fill in some gaps, though they may be wide.

I understand the volume of info. you have and would never ask you to open that to me. I'll await your book! Also, I couldn't do justice to it because of time limitations.

My email is: roppelt@cox.rr.com

Thanks, Bob

Dear Rick,
My brother's name is Rick. Cool.....

I don't think I'm part of the CT Oppelts that everyone is talking about. My family lived in Fairfield from 1973 to about 84. Some family are still up in CT.

Please e mail me and we'll talk some more.......roppelt@cox.rr.com

Hi, I'm trying to locate birth/death and other records for a Thomas Paul Oppelt, sometimes named Paul Thomas Oppelt, b. abt. 1915 and died in 1964 at the age of 45 years at Hartford or West Hartford, CT. He was married about 1947-1948 to Bridget Frances Bondiuto. His daughter works with me, and hass no information on that side of her family.
