The 1850 Census for Maury Co shows a 16 year old girl named Mary Polk living in a household headed by W. C. Whithorne, whose wife was the former Matilda Campbell. I am persuaded that Matilda's Campbell clan was married to members of the Polk Family. I believe my ggg grandmother to have been a Sallie Polk who married a Campbell, first name unknown. They must have been married by 1835 or so. Matilda was probably their daughter, as well as the Mary Campbell who married B. F. Wheeler of Giles Co. What a tangle. So many Polks. So many Campbells. It's so good hearing from you. As stated before, I am a member of the Polk family I haven't been successful at locating any of my relatives. My father 71, aunt 69 and uncle 96 are the only 3 of the entire family who've lived long enough to remember anything pertaining to our family history. However, getting concrete information from them is impossible.

Whether we are related genealogically or spiritually, I am glad to have come in contact with you. James K. Polk was my great-grandfather. All I have in memory of him is a very old bible, his picture and my father, aunt and uncle's stories. I'm afraid that without learning my family history soon, I won't be able to teach my children their background. I would love to have any information you have about the Sarh Childress and James K. Polk Families. I'm also excited about the thought of adding a piece to such a mind boggling puzzle.
