Is the Obituary Collection Impossible To Use? Help!!

I see numerous listings of obituaries for my family but when I click on them they show only an entry what newspaper the obituary is located in. Is there no way to actually see the obituary? This seems completely useless. Any help will be appreciated!

I was told in an e-mail that this line that you see tells you what newspaper and what day it was in, and you take this information and request an obit lookup. I guess people see the "town" you are looking for, and if they are near that town, they will actually go to library or newspaper itself and look it up for you. Quite an undertaking; volunteers are great if you ask me.

Because of copyright issues, the actual obituaries cannot be on the site. Members instead create an index of citation information of the obituary in the following format: Name, age at death, location, periodical abbreviation, date of periodical publication, username of poster.

If you find your individual in the index, you can then Google search the periodical abbreviation to get the actual periodical. Then you can request the obituary from them as you'd have the name and publication date.
