We have been researching our geneology and have, by sheer luck, obtained a photograph of my great-grandfather, Richard Redden Alford (Private, Co. K, 5th AL Regiment), at a reunion of what must be Geneva Co. area CSA veterans around 1910 (judging from Richard's age in the photo). There are 47 gentlemen in the photo; one holding a CSA battle flag. I have no way of finding out where it was taken or who the others in the photograph are (we suspect the identity of one other- Luke Spears). Richard was in the CSA Veterans' Camp 1660 according to his obituary. Would there be records of this camp somewhere? Anyone have information about such a camp? I have tried various efforts but with no success. I'd appreciate any advice that I can get about how to pursue this lead.

Hi sadams1969. thanks for the reply (first one in ten years!). do you have a photo of your GGF from around 1910 to compare to the group photo that I have? if so, i'll be happy to exchange photos with you to try and determine if he is indeed in the group. i will also check the roles of the Geneva Co. CSA veterans Camp Masey Kimmey to see if he is listed. when did he pass away? contact me offlist at walford(at)dbtech.net (substitute at=@ in the address) so we can network more. thanks again. Wm.

Re: Photo of Geneva Co. CSA Veterans
Dear Sir, My great-grandfather was Judge Henry Harrison Foster of Geneva, Ala. (Register in Chancery) He was a CSA veteran and, according to his obituary in Geneva newspaper, founded Camp W. C. Oates. He was born Oct. 1842 in Georgia, grew up in Tuskegee, Ala. and lived in Geneva most of his life, until his death 8 Dec 1907. I know he must have been active in a veterans' group because I have a pamphlet for a CSA convention in Texas. I do have a picture, but not easily accessed right now. He was living in Tuskegee at beginning of war and joined up with a group from Montgomery and surrounding area, according to obit., so perhaps this veterans' group was in that area. I have not researched that aspect. Don't know if any of this is any help to you, but I will be glad to share any info I have.

Re: Photo of Geneva Co. CSA Veterans
Wish I could say that I could help but I have had trouble with my family. They want to be difficult and want to hide everything. LOL. If you see any Driggers, Harrison's, or Henderson's I will be happy to compare them with my group but I have had trouble finding CSA records on them. I know my Sims ans Catrett families served but most of them were from Coffee or Pike Counties. Sorry I can't help. Lisa

I would appreciate any info you have on these CSA Vets and the group. I am trying to get some history of the Samson area together for fellow researchers. Lisa Driggers
