My cousin and I have been working on a Barney geneology for several years. We are looking for James Barney father to Moses.Believe landed near New York can"t prove yet. But know from cencus he migrated to Penn. then to Ohio. Had a son ,our great great grandfather Moses. He lived and died in southern Ohio. Married a Miller founded Peach Grove.Great Grandfather was one of his sons ,Hiram, who was the father to our grandfather Paul. If any of these names are in your tree please contact. Have more info. Chances are your William James Barney was a descendant of Jacob Barney Sr., who settled in Massachusetts Bay Colony in the early 1630s. Anyway, here's what I have --- probably all from you and your cousins --- but for whatever it's worth! He is my 2nd grandfather, one of his sons Moses, is my great grandpa, and on Moses Death Certif. it lists William as his name. Wm and Adaline had six children. I have 1860, 70, 80 Census for this family.

William married Adaline Wolfe. Adaline was born 1825 in N.Y. She md. (2) James Rainy. name: I had her name as Eveline; Adaline Wolfe from Linda's post on FamilyHistory.com.

Thanks for posting all of the more recent history about David and Adelaide Barney, They were my Great-Grandparents -- I am a direct descendent of Fayle Barney DuPuis. You can find all of the prior infromation on the Morman geneology website "www.familysearch.com" it gives information back to the early 1500's. Also if you would like the recent family history of the Barneys I can help you out or at least put you into contact with someone who can. Moses Barney was my Great grandfather. He had 3 sons Cliffard,Hiram and Ode.Hiram was my Grandfather.My father told me many times they were from Ireland.He said they came to Washington state.One went to penn. the other Ohio.Although I didnt know my grandfather(Hiram) because he either fell from a cliff or committed suicide.He was a cave hunter so they dont really know. My grandmother died only 3 weeks before and he was very obsessed with her and for that reason they really never knew if it was a accident or not.I have been as a child in Cliffards and Odes home many times.
