These families settled in the West Hurley/Kingston/Roundout area during the mid 1800s. They are all connected in some way through marriage.
I would like to share the info I have with anyone who is interested.

I am interested. My fathers family are the O'Neill's and Sparlings from Kingston, Rosendale, Hurley and Saugerties. The O'Neill's settled there from Ireland in the mid 1800's and the Sparlings in the 1700's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Sarah Burke, called Sally, married an O'Neill. In the 1880 Kingston Census her son Charles, age 3, was living with his grandfather Patrick Burke in Kingston. Sarah was working in NYC, and she was a widow. She was the sister of my gr.grandmother Catherine Burke Carey, who was also working in NYC.
I find no other reference to her except a 1907 application for Civil War pension filed by Catherine Carey, where Sarah is listed as on of the heirs of Patrick Burke.
Do you have any information regarding a Charles O'Neill?

I don't have a Charles in any notes nor do I have any Burkes, but your G-grandmother's married name of Carey interests me.

My GG-grandmother was Elizabeth (Eliza) Carey Reddy Vaughn. My G-grandmother, Julia A. Reddy, married James E. O'Neill.

I know nothing of Eliza's family. What was your G-grandfather's first name and do you know if he had any sisters? There are so many Careys in that area at that time that it would be hard to find a true connection probably.

My O'Neils & Carey lines were in Rosendale in the late 1830-early 1840. Peter & Julia Carey ran the Roundout Hotel, and were still there in 1855. In 1870's they are in Kingston, I suspect this has to do with the 2 areas merging.
Their son Peter Jr., b. Rondout 1842 married 1876 Catherine Burke . Johanna Carey, sister of Peter m. John Murphy and had 9 children. His sister Maggie Carey m. Michael O'Brien.
Catherines Burkes sister Sarah Burke married John O'Neil. Son Charlie b. 1877.
It goes on and on.

HI,

We corresponded years ago about Careys and O'Neills. I hope this is still your email address. :)

Please see the attached pics from St. Mary Cemetery in Kingston, New York. I hope they help you.
