forced march 1849?

I was under the impression that the final forced march from Tennessee was in 1838, but I keep reading family documents that suggest a march was undertaken in 1849. My family arrived in Arkansas/Missouri around this time in the company of Walls, Tyner, Latty, Molder, Hill families.

I don't know if there was a forced march in 1849. I know that my Princes came from GA to Eastern AR right about that time. I had a 2g uncle born 1845 in GA and my 2g g'ma was born here about 1849. Her grandparents apparently came between 1830 and 1832. Her mother was Cherokee and possibly others in the line. Do you have an Ajax Tyner/Tyre in your info? Other families in this line: Hydrick, Barnes, Cooper, I think maybe Mitchell. Some of these families were in McNairy and surrounding counties of TN about 1830.

No Ajax Tyner that I'm aware of. These folks came mostly from Hamilton and surrounding counties in TN(the old Cherokee Nation), and settled in northwest AR and southwest MO. Eventually some descendents moved into the Cherokee Nation. They were mixed blood families, most of which were identified as Cherokee, but some on closer examination seem to have descended from the Catawba.

I found some info on Latty saying they were on Cherokee land in the early 1800's. Do you think they were Cherokee or just living on cherokee land? My family line is :

Emory Latty(1809)--Philemel or Fleming Latty(1834)--Thomas A Latty(1857)---Ollie Lattie(1900) My greatgrandmother.

Hope you can help me. Good luck. Jill

Hi Jill,

According to my information John Latty, who was the father of Nancy Latty -- the mother of Fleming Latty -- was in eastern Tennessee, Cherokee Nation East, in the early decades of the 19th century.

I have more information about him and his wife and descendants that I'd be happy to share. Please contact me directly by email at tomwalls@gmail.com.

Thanks.
