Is anyone researching a BRUCE family that may have been of the Errol, Perth area? She was b. abt 1811, parents unknown. Husband John Powrie was a salmon fisher, so could have been anywhere on the Tay or parts along the E coast of Scotland fishing and could have met her at any ports along the way.

Thoughts or suggestions? John and Isobella lived in Errol on High Street. He was alternatively a weaver.

I have John Powrie who married Isabella Bruce. They had 5 children; John b 1833, Elizabeth b1835, Jean b. 1838, James b. 1843 & Henry b. 1846. Isabella must have died between the birth of her last child (Henry) and September 1857 as John, a widower, married Elizabeth or Isabella Hepburn in Dundee. They went on to have 4 children.
I can find no record of Isabella Bruce's death in the GROS so assume she died pre-1855.

When I saw your post I wondered if you had any information that might tie in with my John Bruce who married Mary Drummond. The marriage is recorded in Errol and Markinch 30th December 1802, Errol being the parish of the groom. One of their sons was named Henry which made me think there just might be a connection.

I know the thread's a bit old, but Isabella is shown on the 1851 census with the family and were neighbours of Margaret Fyffe/Fyfe an unmarried servant who lived along the street. I come to the conclusion that Isabella must have died sometime between 1851 and 1854, as Margaret Fyffe had an illegitimate son, John Powrie b. circa 1854 who I assume was the fathered by John Powrie the widower of Isobella. After his 'fling' with Margaret Fyffe, John Powrie Snr. fisher/weaver went on to marry Elizabeth/Isabella Hepburn in September 1857 and went on to have another 4 children. And as a matter of interest, Elizabeth/Isabella Hepburn's grandmother was another Powrie (Jean) who married Robert Webster in Errol in 1789.

John would have been somewhere along the Tay. The Powrie family didn't start moving up the east coast until the 2nd half of the 19th century. There was a John b 1806, but he married Barbara Buchan b 1813
