Sra.

La verdad todo se acabó. Para estos hijos e hijas no hay consuelo. Saben que la muerte es una santa, y que desde la gloria los benidice;

Mrs. Mariana M. Sanchez

Mrs. Mariana M. Sanchez passed away Friday, November 9, 1945 at 4:30 in the afternoon. The grave thought of her unfortunate passing hangs over the entire county of Guadalupe and Santa Rosa. Mrs. Sanchez had been confined to bed in her Santa Rosa home when she died.

Her body lay in state at her home under the direction of Hutchins & Dunn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanchez was the wife of the late Leopoldo Sanchez who preceded her in death, December 18, 1928. He served as a prominent Democratic political figure in various public positions. She was the daughter of the late Silvestre Marquez and the late Teresita Silva, early settlers of Anton Chico and true Christians. Her parents preceded her in death in 1912. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Anton Chico May 27, 1868.

Mrs. Sanchez received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church with the Eucharist and the rite of Extreme Unction. She died as she lived, a faithful Christian. She believed and often said that religion was the light that guided our pilgrimage here on earth. This belief would console us, our souls, in the time of our death, when we would be called to our final rest and the doors of heaven would be opened to us.

She was respected and honored as an ideal mother who fulfilled her motherly obligation. To those who knew her she was a true lady. Mrs. Sanchez was charitable to the poor and protected those in need.

She performed her sacred mission as a mother and also fulfilled her obligations to the Church society. Up until the end, she never forgot her beloved religious sisters. She died surrounded by the tenderness of her family.

She was the queen of her household. She held the love of her husband and family. She was kind and tender to her family and friendly to all. She no longer lives. She sleeps never to awaken from her eternal rest.

This is the fateful law that all creatures obey. The blind justice of death that eventually captures all of us.

This past Friday a grave was opened in which we place the remains of a mother who fulfilled her sacred mission. Mrs. Sanchez was the loving enthusiasm of her home around which her family gathered.

How quickly death tightens the knot and fells the tree and these children are left without shelter.

The truth is everything comes to an end. For these sons and daughters there is no consolation. They know that death is a blessing and that glory will shine upon them.

Virginia Marquez, daughter of Jose Silvestre [Slyvestre] Marquez and Teresa [Teresita] Silva [Sylva].

I have one record that shows her birth as January 12, 1866.
Another record shows her birth year as 1877. Neither date is supported by a church record. A church record does show that she married Jose Sanchez November 26, 1885 in Anton Chico, New Mexico Territory. He was born about 1835 in La Alameda, New Mexico Territory. He died April 2, 1894 in Anton Chico, New Mexico Territory.

Jose Silvestre Marquez, son of Jose Miguel Marquez and Maria de Loreto Ruibal [Roybal] was born November 26, 1839 in San Miguel del Vado, New Mexico, Department of Mexico. He married Teresa Silva January 7, 1862 in Anton Chico, daughter of Juan Silva and Maria Romero. Teresa was born about 1848.

Jose Miguel Marquez, son of Juan Bartolome Marquez and Maria Barbara Sena, was born March 31, 1798 in La Villa de Santa Fe, Province of New Mexico. He married Maria de Loreto Ruibal February 16, 1827 in La Villa de Santa Fe, daughter of Felis Ruibal and Cecilia Gallego. She was born about 1808.

The confusion of Virgina's birthdate is perplexing. The first record came from a genealogist with a good reputation for solid work and the second came from a family source. Yet the Anton Chico church records do not support either date.

Let me know what you know about Jose Sanchez's family. Have you researched this branch? I have extensive info on this Sanchez clan.

I hope that you enjoy the photo.

I know that you posted this initial message in 2004 but I'm finally just reading it! Silvestre Marquez and Terisita Silva are the parents of my great grandmother Seferina Marquez who is the sister of Virginia.

I have a jackpot of information! I actually have a copy of the original diary that Jose Silvestre wrote. It has detailed birth and marriage records etc. I have the marquez line back to 1744.

E-mail or call me 360-731-1027

I have a copy of a family book where her father wrote her date of birth as Jan 21 1866 (In those days most female's first name were all Maria after the Virgin Mary) Hope this helps.

I just noticed that you wrote Virginia in the first part of your posting and then Mariana, Mariana Marquez was born May 27, 1868. Virginia Marquez was born Jan 21, 1866.
