Currently Holy Trinity Church is the main church of the community of Trinidad and its outlying areas. There are several villages "up the river" (as Trinidadians say), and each of those used to have their own church, I think...(e.g., Primero, Segundo, Tercio, Cokedale, Weston, Starkville, Sopris, etc.). In Trinidad itself along with Holy Trinity there was Mount Carmel Church, which is now closed, and later St. Joseph's Church. Brian indicates that all the records are now at Holy Trinity. I don't know that for a fact. I do know that the GSHA and the NSHG sell the books that he mentioned, early baptismal records and early marriage records. You can call the Pastoral Center office in Trinidad and ask for certain if all the records are now at the main churc.

The Holy Tinity Church is not the only Catholic Church in Las Animas. However, all the Catholic records for the county are kept there.
There are Baptismal, 1866-1870, and marriage, 1866-1884, books available for purchase through the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America.
www.hispanicgen.org/publicat.html is their web site. Good luck!

Can you give me their phone number? I am interested in obtaining those books. Apodaca/Aragon used to live in Trinidad and Valdez during the years of 1800-1950. My grandfather and my father as well as their families were born in Valdez and Ashishipa Valley. I need to trace this family.

Thanks,
Mark

There may be an easier way to find the info you seek. First find the batch numbers for the state, each local has different number. Take that number and go to family search and insert where it say's batch number. Insert name you are searching for, search.... Don't use exact spelling. I am transcribing for Las Animas 1870 and I know some names can't be deciphered.
