They had 4 sons: John (w: ??), James (w: Sara Jane Kane & Mary McNamara), Thomas (w1:? w2: Bridget Walsh) - their grandson was John, Bishop of Killala - and Bartholomew 2nd (w: Mary Foody). Looking to share information, find living Conmy's from this clan, including those in Ireland, and will send Tree to any interested parties. Laura :)

Margaret "Peggy" Conmey married Martin Sweeney, the brother of my great-grand-father Michael Sweeney, in Sligo in 1838. They emigrated to the US; they had three daughters. He died in 1844 in Utica, NY. She moved to Dushore, PA, where Michael and his family lived. Peggy re-married to John Doyle. Her Sweeney daughters all grew up in that area, although one married and moved to Chicago. She died in 1900 and is buried in the cemetery at St. Basil's Church there.
I would be very interested in any COnmey connections in Ireland you could make to this woman or her family or mine.

Add to your list the spelling Convy. I have come across a number of those in baptismal and marriage records in Co. Slito in both the baronies of Carbury and Tireragh, along the coasts west and north of Sligo town. At first I thought it was a sloppy way of entering Conway, but soon discovered not.

Have turned up more info: John Conmy (son of Bartholomew & Bridget Brennan) lived in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania - his family is in 1850 & 1860 census: John (abt 1813) was married to Jane and had Thomas (abt 1846), Catherine (abt 1849), John Jr. (abt 1852) and Richard (abt 1856). They lived in the same county/census as his brother James Conmy (and wife Sara Jane Kane).

I have recently uncovered a lot of information about this family in the time after it arrived in Sullivan County, PA. It tunrs out that John Conmey arranged for his sister, Margaret "Peg" Conmey (widow of Martin Sweeney) to relocate to this County from Rome, NY in 1845 with her three daughters after the death of her husband Martin. There, in Sullivan County, she married John Doyle and had further children and lived until 1900. The Conmey, Sweeney, Doyle, and Jordan families were all closely related economically and socially and formed part of the backbone of the northweter part of the county.

Laura:
I have a lot and I will be getting more. Just recently, I discovered and was able to obtain six-month use of the memoirs of Alvin Frawley. Alvin was the great-great-nephew of Martin Sweeney and he recorded enormous amounts of information about these people. I just haven't transcribed or even read it all yet. A big box of his materials was sitting in the home of his daughter-in-law in elmira, New York, and she had never dreamed it was of any value until she heard that I was looking for it. How she heard is a long story to relate some time.
However, by Saturday some time, I will post what I do have on the Conmeys in at least summary form so that you can have it and go from there.

Wonderful news Bob! In all my family history of John and brother James, there is not one sister named anywhere. Of course I was sure there were some, but apparently the names were not investigated. As you find new info, please continue posting as I'm trying to get the entire Conmy family tree done and John is my last male link not finished. Do you have the names of Margaret's children with Martin, as well as with John?

My great great grandfather was Thomas Conmey, a shoemaker in Bay City Michigan. He came from Ireland through Canada. His son was Joseph Conmey and his grandson was Thomas W. Conmey, who died August 1958 in Bay City. I have some dates though not with me today. Is there any connection to the Conmey's that you are speeking of? I think this Conmey is from Mayo?
