In the obituary of my gr-gr-grandfather Joachim Stoltenberg (1820-1904), who died in Clinton, Iowa, it is stated that Joachim is survived by his sister, "Mrs. Hamann of Davenport." This Mrs. Hamann's maiden name would have been Stoltenberg. Does anyone have any info on this Mrs. Hamann or the connection between Hamann and Stoltenberg in Davenport, Iowa?

Not sure if this has any revelence in your search/research.

I am a Hamann DNA descendant (do not carry the Hamann surname) that originated in Koeningreich Sachsen (Kingdom of Saxony), then to South Manitowoc County and Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

Stoltenberg is a name spread throughout those two counties in Wisconsin.

With freedom of migration in early America, it is not impossible to think that the two surnames in two states could possibly be related.

Huhn is another surname from Manitowoc/Sheboygan counties that would be in the mix.

Religious affiliation of the three surnames would either be E & R (todays UCC) or the various Lutheran synods and those three families married each others sons/daughters and coverted quite often.

Unfortunately, I have no information of much in Davenport.

Mystery solved. "Mrs. Hamann" was born Cecilia Stoltenberg in 1836 in Holstein, Germany. On 16 Feb. 1857 she married John F. Hamann in Davenport, Iowa. Cecilia died 14 Dec 1924 in Davenport, Iowa. Her brother was Joachim Stoltenberg, who was born Oct. 1820 in the area of Krokau in Probstei, Holstein, Plon, Germany; emigrated with his wife in their aged years to Clinton, Iowa; and Joachim died in Clinton in 1904. This was a brother and sister from Krokau area of Probstei. Looking for any further information.
