I am researching a branch of my family from the Adams county area. I am having some problems connecting some dots and wondering if anyone may be able to help me. My 2nd great grandmothers name was Edith Pomona Burke she was born in Plainville on Sept 22 1875, she married Oscar Weeden Bauer. My problem is her parents , you see she shows up with them on the 1880 census but they are listed as Ebhas and Jeham, I can not find any further info on either of these names even though I know they stayed in the area, you see her brother was Humphrey Burke 1877-1904 and Nellie J Burke was her sister 1880-1899 I have read both of their obits and Mrs.Burke is still in the area in 1904. The listing on Familysearch.org seems to think her parents were really Charles Edward Burke 1823 (yet to find any kind of will to make this connection) and Mary Jane Miller 1837. that listing shows that Mary Jane was first married to a John Girling in Canada, now Ediths death certificate shows her mothers maiden name as Girling, so I am thinking the possibility could be that whoever filled out her certificate thought Girling was her maiden name since that had been a name her mother had used (being from a previous marriage) the problem with this is that a John Girling is buried in plainville cemetery where most of the family is buried with a Mary J budreau who familysearch has listed as Mary Jane Miller's mom. So I have no idea if her mom was really a Girling or a Miller?? I am very confused on who Edith parents really were, the mysterious ebhas and Jeham burke or is their enough documentation that suggests her parents were Charles edward and Mary, who appear to divorce? I am looking for any info that can possibly help me figure this out. Thank you!

It looks like a transcription error in the census index. If looked at closely the census reads Burke, E. Chas
and J Mary. It is sometimes written with the middle initial after then surname. I believe Charles and Mary would be correct.

I would think that her mothers maiden name was Miller. It was probably a mix up because of her previous marriage The only way to be certain would be a copy of the marriage certificate to John Girling.
