I have some info on the
Hagan line that originated out of
Appling Co. Georgia.
There is a Peter
Hagin listed in the 1790
Surry Co., NC census. He is listed with 2 males under the age of 16 and 1 "free white female". This Peter
Hagan (according to oral family history from "our elders" migrated from
Appling Co. GA in
Surry Co., NC. The elder Peter
Hagin (listed in the 1790 census) is the father of Peter
Hagan b.c.1780 in NC. Peter
Hagan b.c.1780 married Francis May
Holcomb (her father May
Halcomb is listed in the 1790
Surry Co. census). Peter
Hagan and Francis
Halcomb had the following children:
Colston D,
Halcomb May (my ggg grandfather, )Henry, James, Mary Ann, Sally, Margaret, John, Joseph,
Hiram David. Halcomb
Hagan remained eventually settled in
Decatur Co., GA where he married Martha Louisa
Cooper in 1837. Martha and
Halcomb left Decatur county shortly after the 1840 census and headed to Calhoun Co., Fl where they are reflected in the 1850 census. Halcomb's brother,
Colston D
Hagan married Zyphilia
Mann Collins 20 March 1826 in
Madison Co., NC. They had the following children: Lawrence b. 1832,
Chrisley G, b. 27 Aug 1845, Seborn b. 14 Feb 1827 and Mahaly and Peter born sometime between 1827 1845.
Seborn J. Hagan married Mary Ann
Roberts 27 Jan 1856 (
Madison Co., NC). Mary Ann and Seborn had one son I know of: Lawrence, b. 14 Nov 1859 (
Madison Co.) and he died 29 Nov 1929 in Barnardsville, NC. Getting back to the 1790
Surry Co NC census of Peter
Hagan (father of Peter Hagan-father of
Halcomb) clearly there is at least one
Hagan brother of the elder Peter unaccounted for. My Mom began researching our lineage 60+ years ago and linked a Stephen Hagon (age 69) that was reflected in the 8 Oct 1850
Walton Co. Fl census house #13. He was listed as being born in SC. His wife Polly (52) from NC. All their listed children were born in
GA.
In house #11 was listed a Benj F
Hagan (age 30) from
GA with wife child. In house #12 was listed a HR
Hagans (age 24) born in
GA. In all likelihood Benj and HR were the sons of Stephen. If any of this makes a connection to anyone searching the
Hagans from NC that originally came from "ole
Applin" I would be happy to try to sort this out. I have extensive info on the
Halcomb Hagan line and his children who settled in Calhoun County. Note: When I asked my mother what the connection of Stephen
Hagan was to Peter
Hagan she said that "the elders" had sketchy info which she had problems recalling currently. They knew for sure that the
Hagan line of Halcomb/Peter came from "ole applin" into
Surry Co and then split to
Decatur GA and then split off into Fla. This may account for why Stephen (Uncle of
Halcomb?) came to Florida around 1850 during he same time
Halcomb migrated there.
