I have been searching for information on my g-g-grandfather, Joseph Kelly,b.@1833, and his wife, Louis (?) Mayhew Kelly. They lived in the area of Black Lake, or Maple Grove, Megantic, QC. Joseph was a farmer, according to the 1881 census. Any information on them, or my g-grandfather, Edmund or Edward Charles Kelly, would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in finding out if Edmund/Edward was married around the time he emigrated to the US, before the birth of my grandmother in 1904.

Some additional info turned up: Obit for Charles E. Kelley, died in Bethel VT Jan 7, 1927, refers to "married twice". Searches of Canadian censuses reveal Joseph Kelly (his father) deceased before 1891; also reveal probable siblings of Lois Mayhew Kelly: Louis, Joseph, and Charles, all born withiin same timeframe, all same Church of Emngland, all report father b. in Quebec, mother b. in Nova Scotia, they and their families lived in Megantic county nearby to Lois and Joseph Kelly. Spelling variants include Mayhew, Mayhue and Mailloux. Charles Mayhew had a son Charles who crossed into Vermont with his wife and a son, Clarence, who was known to the family as a cousin to our grandmother, Kate Kelly Purinton. Still searching for parents of Joseph Kelly and Lois Mayhew; can anyone add to this?

Lois Kelly's death registration may have her parents on it.

Ancestry.ca used to have a 14 day free trial period. It might be worth it for you to have a look at the Druoin Collection.

OMG, such a wealth of information at one time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have Ancestry membership but not the internbational or Canadian version. This is a tremendous help. Coincidently, I also received confirmation via an obit for my g-grandfather, Charles, that my grandmother's mother was not the woman he was married to at the time of his death. He is listed on the 1881 as Edmond, on the 1891 as Charles; at that time he is listed as single. In 1881, there is a sister, Lucy Kelly, living on a neighboring farm, a family with child or children. Questions answered, questions raised. Thanks again.

For anyone researching this line:
Lois Mayhew Kelly, died in Littleton NH, 14 Dec. 1903. Her death record records her parents as Charles Mayhew and ------Willey. The Drouin collection has a birth record in Ireland, Megantic Co., Quebec for a sister, Mary Jane Mayhew. On that record, her parents are given as Charles Mayhew and Lydia Willey. Charles is born in Quebec, Lydia b. in NH. Other records related to the Kelly line and the Mayhew line are available in the Drouin collection, as well.

Thank you all for doing the legwork on this! I've just reached the possible Joseph Kelly-Lois Mayhew connection in my own research, and this information will give me a lot to think about. I'm hoping these are the right people, in which case I can strengthen the connection.

My ancestor is Charles Edward Kelly, son of Joseph and Lois, who married Hannah Bean and proceeded to have 11 children. If you're interested in working back down the tree, I have a good amount so far on my website at http://mattbk.com/phpgedview.

Pleased to meet a fellow Kelly descendent. I am also descended from Charles Edmund Kelly, through his oldest child Katherine Kelly Plummer Purinton, who was my grandmother. If your Kelley/Kelly searches turn up a Purinton/Kelly tree, that is mine. I've gotten some new information recently on Joseph Kelly's father and how he came to live in the Maple Grove area of Quebec. I live in PA but we have a mutual cousin (descended from Henry, Charles' older brother) in NH, as well as several others descended from Laura, the youngest sister; all of these folks are working on the Kelley lines, and we hope to be adding documents and pictures as we piece together the separate information. Thank you for sharing your GEDCOM and please look for my tree (as it is public).
