I am looking for info regarding messiers who immigrated from canada into vermont in the mid 1800's. My ggrandmother, alvina messier's father was mitchell, or michael. her mother's name was mary. He served in the civil war. Any info on the family would be appreciated.

Mitchell Messier enlisted on 23 december 1863.At that time he was a resident of Enosburgh,Vermont.He was with company h,9th vermont infantry and his rank was private.

thank you for your response to my query. i have learned that mitchell was actually michel. i have seen an image of his military pension. it showed mitchell corrected to read michel. it also showed he died in new hampshire in 1917, and his wife collecting a widow's benefit.
what i would really like to know is how my ggrandmother alvina ended up in kenosha wisconsin in 1887. she was born in vermont and her parents were from canada. i think she may have had a couple of sisters with her in wisconsin. clara and emma, but i am not sure. thank you for your help.

Mitchell Messier was born Dec.21-1854 in Beloeil - Que. under the Name HERMENEGILDE Messier and died in Highgte (Underhill) May 15-1900 and had 12 cildren, one Messier and 11 Machia. He married F;prence Mary Longe onFeb. 14-1876 in Highgte VT
