I am just starting to research my family trees. I have run across the abbreviation LR- which I believe stands for Last Residence. There is usually a county and state listed after it with a 5 digit number after that. What is the number supposed to represent for research purposes? Also sometimes LR is listed in combination LB; what does LB stand for in this instance?

Thank you in advance

Have you checked to see if the 5-digit code is a zip code?

Where are you seeing these abbreviations? What kind of records?

LR is probably Last Residence
LB is probably Last Benefit

Both would be referring to the Social Security Death Index, I would imagine.
