Company "A" 1st Alabama Regiment

In the Archives in Montgomery, Alabama, I found an index card that stated my GG Grandfather, James O. Long, was a veteran of the Mexican War. The only thing listed on the card was the fact that he mustered with Company "A", 1st Alabama Regiment, at Mobile, Alabama, on May 23, 1846. I've not found anything further on either he or the 1st Alabama. Does anyone have anything on this regiment?

Go to www.dmwv.org This is the website of the descendants of Mexican War Veterans. This group has two books which might be of interest, so click on the links to the books available for sale from the DMWV.

Steven Butler has written a book on Alabama Volunteers in the Mexican War. There is a second book which includes the diaries and letters of two men from the 1st Alabama. This is an interesting, and lucid account of their adventures.

Best of luck!

It was kind of you to send your thanks.

When you go to www.dmwv.org Click on the picture with members on the homepage. When you get to the page, click on the small flag titled "What We Do", then click on the word "books" in the paragraph.
