Melinda, saw your 11/20/99 post to Yazoo Co Ms Queries board concerning James R. Cochran who you said was buried in Center Ridge Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS. You asked if anyone has a connection to Cochran and of course, I do. My great great grandfather was Richard Cochran, b. 1823 d. 1883, married Martha Jo(Patsy) Walley b. 1824 d. 1875 who had nine brothers and sisters, several of which I do not know their first names but I do know their years of birth, 1830, 1832, 1835, 1837, 1840 and 1843. Your post showed James R. was born 1838 - could your James R. Cochran b. 1838 possibly be one of the Cochran's above.? Most were from the Walthall County, MS area I believe. Would you please look again at your info and advise. Thanks , Richard

Richard, My James Rollistine "Rolly" Cochran was born in MS but I am unsure of what county. Possibly Attala or Holmes. He had a brother named John Presley COCHRAN and a sister named Martha, one named Anne Elizabeth. I believe his mother was naed Jane and his Father was James Nesbitt COCHRAN. If I am not mistaken James Nesbitt's father was James and his wife was Martha (Patsy) Hearst COCHRAN of Abbeville District, SC. I believe James' father was Dr. Daniel COCHRAN from Scotland. Are any of these names familiar to you? I also know of some of James "Rolly" Cochran's children. Would like to hear from you.

Melinda, thanks for your response. I do not think your James Rollistine "Rolly" Cochran is a brother to my gg grandfather, Richard Cochran b.1823 d 1883. Although my Cochran's also have ties to SC, the father and mother to my many unknown Cochrans are John Cochran b. 1790 d 1850 and ? Strickland b 1802 d ? respectively. Then, further back, the father and mother to John Cochran are William Cochran(Irleland) b. 1755 d 1814 and Margaret ? b 1760 d 1855. Of the 10 children of John and Margaret, 5 are unknown - all I have is their years of birth - the five known brothers and sisters are Richard, Caroline, Solomon, Simeon and Jansey Jane. If I run across any reference to your James Rollistine "Rolly" I will let you know. Good luck with your seach and thanks for responding. Richard

Hi. My name is Pam and James Rollistine Cochran is my great great grandfather. His son Joseph Henry had a daughter named Rosella and she is my grandmother. I read the responses and got some info that I did not have. All that I had was James R. Cochrans name and date of birth and his wife Mary Jane Cain. I would love to exchange information with you. Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Pam

My name is Mike Cochran. James Rolly Cochran was my GGG grandfather. I have easily traced my Cochran line this far, and have lots of Cochran information, as well as the Cain's. But, I am new at this. Can you help me with any add'l info on James Rolly Cochran. By the way, I'm pretty sure John Presley Cochran is his son, not his brother. I have a photo of he and his wife. I have been to the cemetery as well. Please email me at mtctx@swbell.net as I would like to share info, and learn more about Rolly. Thanks, Mike

My name is Mike Cochran. James Rollistine Cochran was my GGG grandfather. I have easily traced my Cochran line to him, and have lots of infomation on the Cochrans and the Cains, but have no information past him. I have Civil War papers, etc, as you probably know he was wounded and captured at Gettysburg, then released in a prisoner exchange. He was born in Holmes Co., in either 1838 or 1842. He had a son named John Presley who is burried near him, but I don't know of any brothers, etc. Could you please share your info with me? My email address is mtctx@swbell.net. Thank you

Hi! My Great grand father sister was Miranda Brown Johnson. She had a grandgaughter Carrie Labunia Johnson that married Joe Henry Cochran. A friend/cousin of mine Ernestine Robertson Otis, who died in 1999 wrote a book on her Cochran and Cain. I have a copy of it somewhere. Mrs Ida Cain Carter, who is a member of my family Church -- Fletchers Chapel UMC, is still alive and lives in a nursing home in Yazoo City. She is the daughter of Cornelia Melvina Johnson (another relative of mine) Levi Nathan Cain. Thought you m ight be interested in the info. Sue P.

Sorry I have not been very attentive to this website. I knew of Earnestine Otis. She wrote to my father when I was a child researching information. I am related to her. I have heard of Carrie L. Johnson. Would be interested in corresponding. I will look up my information.
