Though this posting I am replying to is old, are there still others looking for ancestors/descendents of John Wilson Shave (b. 1870) m. Maria McKinley (b.1869). I believe their children were born in Burin. Thanks, Sheryl

I have been researching a Shave family for a # of years. Although, I don't believe your Shave is any connection to mind I thought I pass on my info because... well, you never know.
My search is for an Henry and Maria Shave who resided in St. Lewis' Bay, Labrador for some time and is listed in the 1853-1867 Census - St. Lewis's Bay, which shows him as being the head of a family of five.
They had at least 3 children, namely, Naomi b.1856, John b.1865 and Mary b.1861. I do not believe they were from Labrador and I can find no evidence that they stayed there. I'm assuming that they were from somewhere on the island.
Naomi is my g-grandmother who married John Mercer from Bay Roberts . She had a son named Henry Thomas Shave, b1877 before she married my g.grandfather. If you ever find anything remotely relative to this family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Just as a maybe,I saw a Shave name in Isle of Jersey while chasing my "Jarvis" from Burin around. I noticed some Burin names and made a note of it

I was tracking my ancestors into Jersey, Channel Islands. There are a lot of Newfoundland names there and I know I saw Shave.

Hello there.
My name is Cathy Stafford. I have been searching all over this lovely internet for information on my ggrandmother. She was Annie Blackmore from Port-aux-Basques/Shelburne, Ns/?.
She married a man named John Turpin in Shelburne, had a son and they left town.
There was a John Turpin aboard the Cecil L Shave when it was torpedoed in the first world war. The records simply state that he was survived by his wife, Mrs. Turpin.
I am trying to find out if the ship’s owners would have kept more records and if they have survived.
I am not certain if these are even my people.
The ship was owned by Thomas Shave of Burin.
Here’s hoping
Cathy Stafford
