Elizabeth--your posting caught my eye.
Although I do not have the specific whereabouts of Mabel M. Howden, I can tell you that we are Hume/Fillmore NY Howden descendants.
My mother-in-law was a Howden before marriage and still lives in Fillmore NY; and, I would be happy to ask her to make a local inquiry because she has contact with several Howdens in the area. I can do so when I call her later today.
At the same time, I am interested in more info on the Howdens in Rochester NY because Harvey and Mary W. Howden had John H. Howden (b. 1855/m. Ruth W. Scott/d. 1921--she was b. 1857/d.1944).
John shows in the 1880 Rochester, Monroe, NY census as age 24; occ: bookkeeper. Their son, Harvey W. b. 09 Apr 1879; d. Aug 1962 shows in the 1880 Rochester, Monroe, NY Census as 1 yr. of age w/father: John H. Howden. The SSDI lists SS#052-32-9364 that seems to match the rest of the data.
We have part of the NY line (that is: Noah and Harriet; a little on Harvey M. but still looking for additional info on the other children: William b. abt. 1827; Judson b. abt. 1829; and Louisa b. abt. 1830--these are the children of Henry C. and Sarah Barnard.
Henry C.'s parents had settled in Salem MA; went to CT; then Henry C. (the youngest) b. Peterborough NH.
Henry C. and Abigail (Munsell) Howden moved to Hume NY after m. in 1812. Supposedly, all the children listed above were born there.
William and Sarah (Barnard) Howden, the parents of Henry C. also had: William, John, Sally, Sharon, Thomas, and Betsy. (The last one married a brother of Abigail (Munsell) Howden--Gurdon Munsell and went to OH).
William Henry's father, John W. is mentioned in several history books of NH and VT.
Sorry to go on this far but wanted to post this info so others may contact us too. Thanks and hope to get back to you with news about Mabel M.!
