Nancy FORD/ Jane HOWEL in 1810 Buckingham

I'm trying to find out about both of the women who lived next door to one another in this census. Nancy's age would be have been 26-44 and Jane's 16-25. I suspect they are related to one another. Does anyone know?

Let me explain why I think this: My alleged gggggrandfather, Elijah Howell (b. 1764-1850), married a Nancy FORD in 1791 in Buckingham Co. Rev. Rene Chastain married them and many others in the community, including MAXEYS, FORDS, BONDURANTS, etc. Elijah ultimately turns up in Burke Co. NC before heading on to Knoxville Co. TN about 1813 and marries Jude MAXEY. Her family also originated in Buckingham, as you may know. So....what happened to NANCY FORD? We assumed she died, leaving Elijah one young son. (Burke Co. 1800 census) We again assumed this young son was Duke Howell, our ggggrandfather. (strong evidence, but no proof that Elijah and Duke are father & son OR that Nancy died.) We never have discovered Nancy Ford's parentage, but there have always been rampant family rumors about Duke being (part) native American. In the very comprehensive FORD/ FAURE
interactive Family Tree hosted by Rootsweb, the 1810 Nancy FORD simply is not mentioned. This is so curious, since she had several children in the household. There are other Nancys but none are the right age.

Note: A William MAXEY lives next door to Jane. There is a William MAXEY that was born in 1767 who was related to the FORDS and BONDURANTS...all families that migrated to Knox Co. TN as did my Howells. Hmmm.

Hi:
Read your E-mail and wanted to remind you that Nancy was the nickname or pet name for Anne...give it a try that way, if you haven't already.

Godd luck,

Jean

Jean,
Thank you. I didn't know that.....and....there is indeed an Ann Ford in the 1820 Buckingham census that could very possibly be the same person (as Nancey Ford-1810). Both are next to or very near William Maxey(s). Either way, she remains a mystery.

I am chasing after Nancy Ford also. My ggggggrandfather John Ford was in Burke Co. NC at the same time as Elijah Howell.

VanBuren, Is your John Ford, b.~1789 the son of Joseph & Mary Maxey Ford?
If so, I believe that John Ford and Elijah Howell married sisters. John to Sarah Maxey and Elijah Howell to Jude Maxey. I also think that Nancy Ford may have been John's aunt, a child of James Ford, Jr. (and Sally Burit), as was Joseph.
My theories are based on conjecture only, given the migration pattern and
ages of the folks involved. Also, Duke Howell's estate was closed by administrator, James Payne Ford, John's brother. In fact, he was the administrator on many issues for the Howell family: guardianship, slaves,
estate sale, etc. in Knox Co. TN. after Duke's death about 1846.
I'd love to hear more from you!

My John Ford was born 1761 and we believe to be the son of Peter Ford and Judith Maxey. John named his first son after his brother Jacob and named his first daughter Nancy. Since you report that Elijah Howells land was adjacent to Peters land in Buckingham, it looks possible. Where did you get that land record? I have just started looking in Buckingham since a dna report on a cousin supports John Ford as being Peters son.

Van Buren,
The land record is in the Library of VA online. I searched Howel, I believe. The Ford/Faure family tree that I follow, which references Clark's book about the Maxeys, has your John, but no children are listed. He would have been in the same generation as Elijah Howell, marrying perhaps around the same time that Elijah married his Nancy Ford 10 May 1791. The marriage is recorded by the Rev. Chastain. If you want to email me, I'd be happy to exchange information with you. I have the land record and a relationship graphic posted on my public site as well. dmartin86@cox.net

I have been following this exchange and am interested in finding proof of who John FORD, the son of Peter FORD, Sr and Judith MAXEY married. Edythe Clark who wrote the MAXEY book and was an expert on the MAXEYs said John FORD the son of Peter FORD & Judith MAXEY married Elizabeth THOMASON. As for Judith MAXEY, daughter of Edward MAXEY & Judith FORD, and brother of Sampson MAXEY, she does not indicate a spouse. It is possible she never married or if so Mrs Clark did not find evidence of her marriage. I knew Mrs Clark well and I know that she cannot be reached for further comment. For those of you who believe that John FORD the son of Judith MAXEY, also married Judith MAXEY, do you believe this to be a second wife or do you discount the marriage to Elizabeth THOMASON all together? Since I am a direct descendant of the sister of Peter FORD, Sr, Mary Elizabeth FORD who married James AGEE, I would like to find some proof one way or the other.

Ruby,
I looked up VanBuren's John on:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lawrpaul/f...

The author has some sources that state that John Ford, b.1761
was first married Rhoda Garrett, then to Elizabeth Thomason, no dates
available.

Both of these women, Elizabeth Maxey Thomason and Rhoda Hill Garrett married John Fords. Elizabeth married John Pryor Ford son of Peter Fore III and Sally Pryor and Rhoda Hill Garrett married John Ford son of Joel Ford son of Peter Ford and Judith Maxey. I hope this helps These women were 10 to 15 years younger than John Ford son of Peter Ford and Judith Maxey.
