My Great Great Grandfather James Alexander Wilburn is believed to be buried in Hall Cemetery near Habersham, Tn. I have a couple of questions, is this is campbell county, and if it is does anyone know where I can get an obit for him. I have conflicting information and I'm trying to straighten it out. I searched the campbell county death certificates, and marriage cert, but found no info on him. I'm very new to this, but very excited to learn about my family. Thank you to whomever may be of assistance to me.

Aaron: Yes, Habersham IS in Campbell Co., TN. I checked my cemetery book and unfortunately the James Wilburn listed had no dates on his stone. The directions listed in the book are: Hall cemetery is located off of Stinking Creek Road: From I-75 Exit, 1st Road to left after Stinking Creek School House.

Could you give me more information? I.E. names of his children? Rough dates of when he was born?

The reason I ask is you didn't give enough info--for instance there are two James Wilburns listed in the 1920 Campbell Census: one is 41 and listed as James F. and the other is 32 and listed as James T. If your James is a relatively recent James, I couldn't tell ya which one.

Also (to muddy the waters here) there was a James Wilburn who had married Lucinda Bolton Feb 3, 1859. He had served in Co. F of the 6th Tenn Infantry and Lucinda had applied for a Civil War pension in June 7,1892 as a widow (certificate app #552088/345820) which means he had died sometime before 1892 and in that case there will not be either a death certificate or an obit (unless his death was a tragic murder or something of that nature). Lucinda was buried in Lowe II Cemetery (off of Stinking Creek Road) and she died Nov. 29, 1908. Her husband James Wilburn (of Co. F 6 TN Inf) is also buried there but with only the name of his civil war regiment and no dates. At the TSLA site they had:

Wilburn Lucinda Campbell 1908 #4594

So if this is your gg-grandmother you can send for a xerox of her certificate from the Cleveland Library.

Tennessee didn't consistently require death certificates until after 1914 and even then some either didn't survive the record keeping or were never filed by the funeral home. TSLA has a few from before 1914 and I have the other books but I checked and didn't see a James A. Wilburn or an Alexander Wilburn.

Hope this info helps!

Where did you get a cemetary book. I am looking for a website that use to list all of the cemeteries in Campbell County and some of them even listed the people buried there but I can not find that site now.

Kristie:

Check these websites:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncampbe/publish/index.html

I purchased my cemetery book from Byron and Sistlers. Their website for the Campbell list is:

http://www.mindspring.com/~sistler/tnco3.html#cam

They are very nice folks and you can order the books over the phone if you have a credit card.

There is also a new website hosting cemeteries from Campbell and Anderson co. Volunteers are going out in the "field" and taking photos of tombstones. Here is that web address:

http://www.geocities.com/craftybcp/cemetery.htm

There is also this site to look at:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/tennessee/campbell.html

Good luck!

If the James Wilburn you are looking for has a middle name of Elexander (not Alexander) and was born May 27, 1876 we have a match!! He is my Great Granddad. He was the Rev. James E. Wilburn and died Nov. 30, 1962 and is burried in Hall Cemetery. I have a good deal of information on this particular James. Let me know if you would like any of this information. FYI - check out savethejail.org, there is a picture of him sitting outside of his cell while he was waiting trial at the Jefferson County Jail about 1921.

James Wilburn that he is looking for is James Elexander (not Alexander) Wilburn b. May 27, 1876 d. Nov 30, 1962. He is burried in Jacksboro Cemetery. There is a picture of the tombstone on the following site. Just go to this site, click on Jacksboro Cemetery and scroll down to James E. Wilburn. http://www.geocities.com/wizardbcp1/CAMPBELLCOUNTY.htm

I want to thank the volunteers who went out and photographed all of these tomstones and posted all of the information.

James E. Wilburn also married a Liddy Bolton in Oct. 1953. His first wife had died in West Virginia, and he returned to Tennessee and remarried.

I had the cemetery incorrect, sorry for misleading you!! He is burried in the Jacksboro Cemetery, not Hall Cemetery. Elihu & Isabelle are burried in the Hall Cemetery. (They were his parents.)
I plan on visiting that area tomorrow & Friday. Hope it's dry!!

Elihu & Isabelle Wilburn

Returned from my trip down south last night. Campbell County is very beautiful! The weather was cool and wet. but fortunately, it did not rain during our cemetery adventure. My husband and I drove over Pine Mountain, what a beautiful drive!! We went from Rt. 25 over Pine Mountain (where James Wilburn was born in 1876!!) to Stinking Creek Road and then to Hall Cemetery. I found Elihu & Isabelle's graves. The cemetery is pretty well maintained with only one area uncut. If you every go there, we did find several areas that were very soft....and one area had caved in, so walk carefully. Their graves are near a fence that is only about 10 ft long. We also found Rev. James Wilburn grave in Jacksboro Cemetery.
