The usual name was the Brooklyn Home for Children. The 1925 edition of the "American Medical Directory" gives its address as 217 Sterling Place, Brooklyn.

"The National Union Catalog: Pre-1956 Imprints" treats the home under its earlier name : Brooklyn Industrial School Association and Home for Destitute Children.

A book published in 1986 contains a list of adoption agencies, including the Brooklyn Home for Children, 67-35 112th St., Forest Hills (boro of Queens) NY 11375; phone 718-263-0740.

In 1992, a newspaper titled New York Newsday printed a legal notice about a child; it contained the new name of the home---Forestdale, Inc. However, this name may refer to the institution, not the adoption agency. At one time, the home accepted referrals from the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies. I have no information about the home's records.

Gloria -

My grandmother and her sister were in this home in 1920. I found their names listed in the 1920 U.S. Census. I realize you posted this message in 2006 and may have found that long ago, but if not I think I have it saved in my shoebox and would be happy to send it to you. Also, my mother just loaned me my grandmother's autograph book - one we think was given to her for her graduation from school at the home. If you're interested, send me your mother's name and I'll look for it in the book. If I find it, I'll scan and send the page.

Surnames: Donne
My mother, her sister and brother were in the home in the 20's. I remember reading their autograph books. I don't know what happened to them. Did you see the names - Evelyn or Doris Donne mentioned in any of the autograph books. They remained friendly with many of the home kids for years. What we'd your grandparent's maiden names?
